John Stones transfer saga

All the board needs to do is work out when the price gets high enough that we're better off selling.

That means weighing up the value of a good defender, with skills that match well to the team, and with a mass of potential (possible club and country captain, serving for 10+ years) against the potential value of what we can get for the money:

+ Buy the players we need so the teams is improved now and in the future
+ Pay off some debt (boo-hiss)
- Extra player salaries
- Fees to Barnsley, agents etc
- Effect on fans (ticket/merch sales)

Its not that hard for them to plug in the numbers, to get a minimum sale price. And then try and go up from there.

No idea what that would be though. We're all guessing.

Dear Chelsea,

You wouldn't understand...

Chelsea are a glass house

And you don't throw stones in glass houses.

Cahill is an self-overated pleb.

Jose is a gimp.

Chelsea can do one.

No sorry I was wrong....having such a huge financial advantage is clearly something they should be proud of as they really did earn it.....oh no wait, they didn't, some Russian crook just needed somewhere to sink his cash into.

Arsenal are a proper football club, don't even try and compare media friendly FC to them FFS!

It's like Man City, used to have a bunch of decent fans, and like us were living in the shadow of their neighbours. A sugar daddy comes in, spunks a wad of cash to buy trophies, and all of a sudden they think it gives them a god given right to do what they want.

I agree Doug we do need to keep him for a bit yet though as this season has to be a good one for us three new signing minimum at least without losing Stones! If he goes eventually I hope its abroad to Barca!

I'd love to think he'll be here for years to come Joe but Chelsea are just the first club to come calling but they won't be the last. As I said Stones and his agent will likely have considered this sort of thing before it happened and hopefully their not fooled by the media BS being spouted.

What I find somewhat perplexing is that people are arguing John shouldn't leave for Chelsea purely for reasons a fan would consider.

They haven't got history... questioning their fans... paying for fans to travel... Seriously, what relevance does that have to his career as a player?

I'm not saying I want Stones to leave at all, and I am confident his short-term future is best suited here where he can develop his ability.

Still, Chelsea are not a club to look down your nose at all. They've got a very good squad and Jose (arguably) is a top manager in the game.

They would also offer him the potential to play at the higher echelons of football, both domestically and in European competitions.

Also, they have financial might which we simply cannot match, although I'm confident this will not overly sway the lad as of yet.

As I said before, I sincerely hope he doesn't leave for he knows he can regularly play here to develop, which would not be certain at Chelsea.

Yet looking at it purely in terms of a player, Chelsea would not be a second option if his head was swayed earlier than we'd expect.

Far too often people look with their blue tinted glasses on...

PhilM you're forgetting that he is a die hard Everton fan despite only having been with us for three years and would happily earn 30k a week and challenge for the 11th Placed Trophy over 100k a week with Chelsea and Champions League.

Bloody good post.

Can't believe I saw a post earlier somewhere saying we are bigger than them because we've won the league more times.

Great. The last one was last century. Great.

Nobody wants Stones to leave, well I'd hope not, but they are a bigger club than is in modern football terms.

I don't mind him going. He hasn't made a fuss about or doesn't seem to agitate a move.

I just want loads of money for him. Want us to reinvest well.

The only thing I have a problem with is the state of the English game and the way players like Stones or Sterling can go for massive amounts with the hope they'll turn into great players.

History in the modern game says other wise for the most part.

Welcome, I expect you know what sort of response this post will create.

We've given you the courtesy of being able to have your say which is condescending to say the least but I do not think you will contribute anything more useful to a non-debate.

Stones is not for sale, thanks for visiting the site.
Glad you got in first. My response may have warranted a stint on the sidelines alongside my man @chicoazul for a day or two.

Exactly. It was mentioned in @Groucho's thread about the modern era. History is important but only to a point; it's now which is key.

Look at the likes of Forest or Leeds as prime examples. We may not always like it, yet Chelsea is a more attractive opportunity to younger players.

I can't see unless I wear my blue tinted specs...they tend to help hide all the evilness outside of my blue tinted world
