John Stones transfer saga

Stones can't know what Chelsea can offer him in wages, without them approaching him. Without an agreed transfer, that would be tapping up.

Mourinho has been quoted as saying they couldn't justify paying Shaw £100k, so he ended up at United. So he can't expect a salary more than £60k probably. That's only double. (I'm sure most of us would jump for that in our current employment but...).

Wait a year, prove his worth, and he's in line for a lot more if a really big club calls.

Sensible lad like him will wait.

Now I've seen some criticism of the way we've handled this but I'm not sure that we've done anything out of the ordinary. We made a bid, it was rebuffed and we're readying another. Cahill's comments are nothing in my opinion and Mourinho gave an honest answer to a question.

Depends on your definition of "wrong" I suppose. Illegal? Of course not. But Cahill's comments were insulting. You are also omitting the fact that PRIOR to the first bid we told Chelsea he wasn't for sale and we don't want bids. Then you bid a ludicrous amount that had 0% of success (20m ... I mean honestly) and leaked it. It's not the bid per se that's out of the ordinary, it's the fact we said "no bids" then you bid a stupid amount and leaked it to the press. Is it "out of the ordinary for modern football?" Sadly not ... but doesn't mean it isn't scummy.

On the other hand, Martinez came out at the start of May and admitted it was a possibility that some of the young stars could leave when he said
‘I don’t want to sell the dream, “Oh, we need to keep these players”

That's a unique interpretation of him saying he doesn't want to sell his players.

If it's just more money that's required then why not say that?

Because we don't want more money. We don't want to sell. Your money is useless. I don't want it. Nobody better than Stones is signing for us. Money from you billionaire clubs is a poisoned chalice. You take a Champions League player away for us but we can't as a rule -- Lukaku being an exception due to the loan -- get CL quality players to sign for us. So we can never improve by selling. I don't want 50m. Honestly. Zero interest. I want Stones.

Anyway, I wish you all the best for the coming season and I really do hope we get John Stones because this kid has talent and I honestly think he'd learn so much playing next to John Terry and under Jose Mourinho.

He's learned enough playing for us that he's increased in value by at least 1000% in two years ... so I think he'll be just fine here actually playing every single week.

Congrats on finally surpassing half our league title total by the way. Almost as many as Sunderland now!

Another day and yet more " Evertonians" trying to sell John Stones. I despair..
Hopefully Martinez can put this to bed at the next press conference. Is there a friendly in Scotland this weekend ? Surely there'll be a presser

PhilM you're forgetting that he is a die hard Everton fan despite only having been with us for three years and would happily earn 30k a week and challenge for the 11th Placed Trophy over 100k a week with Chelsea and Champions League.
People far often over state the expectations of players loyalty. I'm not saying it should be a game without loyalty, but it only goes so far.

Based on some of the arguments on here, then he should have never left Barnsley (the club he supports) in the first place. How's that different?

In regards to all the bigger club, smaller club tosh thats being talked about recently:

I Met a couple of Chelsea fans on our way out of Wembley in the '09 FA cup final, we thought it was weird that quite a few were leaving the ground early with us blues.

'Why aren't you staying to watch your team lift the cup lads?' I asked, 'There'll be more to come...haha don't be sad lads, you win some you lose some' they replied.

I suppose that's what having a Russian Billionaire's does to you, I'd rather keep trying the hard way thanks.

That's not really working out very well though.

I wouldn't.

If there's one thing I've learnt from following Everton since the 60's...nothing stays good forever, enjoy it while you can

Chelsea fans think this success will last forever...as did the shoite, United, Arse, Leeds...and us

...it doesn't

far as i am concerned id rather have success the way we are than will billions spent on the pitch.

for me the excitment is not from winning but the unexpected. We paid next to nothing for del yet im more excited to see him play than i am if we had bought Di Maria. Cleverly (im the minority) makes me look forward to seeing the midfield more than if we signed muller.

there are exceptions, the likes of de bruyne and that would still want to see.

But yeah, not saying i dont want those calibre of players, just saying its better when we sign a lukaku/fellaini/yakubu player than signing 5 of them every year.

The player himself can put this to bed in a minute if he wanted to. The silence is deafening...

OI ! think twice, it's just another day for you and me, you and me in paradise.....

I don't get why the Echo are saying 'Mourinho denies 2nd bid'.

He didn't say anything of the sort. He was drastically cut off by some Chelsea official before he could even answer the question.

....it's all appears part of the game, Chelsea saying no 2nd bid and Mourinho now saying they can do without Stones. Hoping Everton will be desperate to sell and accept what is offered next and also worry the player that they might withdraw their interest.
