Bloody good post.

Can't believe I saw a post earlier somewhere saying we are bigger than them because we've won the league more times.

Great. The last one was last century. Great.

Nobody wants Stones to leave, well I'd hope not, but they are a bigger club than is in modern football terms.
Na sorry mate they are a London based club no bigger than West Ham ,obviously they have a money rich backer that has bankrolled the club with ridiculous amounts of money to buy their recent success.They empitomise everything that is wrong in the game,sadly we all wish we had that kind of financial muscle.
Goodison is almost sold out every game from a club thats won nowt since 1995 (imagine if we won something, any bloody thing !!! )
Look at the support in the away games in Europe last season , the commentators & press were astounded. Thats the level we should be every year.
Yes you are right this is the Modern Game & they are Bigger Cashwise.....but bigger club , I think not. Some Sugar Daddy buy us please ffs.

Semantics. "Bigger" is irrelevant. Why don't we just say richer? They have more money. City signed a bunch of top players before they'd won a thing. Were they instantly, the day after the takeover with no Champions League, a "bigger" club than all but a few in the world? Of course not. But they still attracted top talent many "bigger" clubs could not afford or attract. Being rich was more important than being "big" to build a title contending side. That's been proven repeatedly.

ManU had been a "bigger" club (using your definition of recent title wins) than the RS for a couple of decades but it was still an accomplishment and a huge milestone to hit 18 and 19 wins.

We have a word to describe City and Chelsea. It's rich. "Big" never made sense to me in this context and only ever causes pointless arguments like this. We should all stop using it immediately.

@johnmerro1: Why #EFC won't buckle to Jose on John Stones this window. #CFC CL rivals will have been in touch..."We'll pay far more for him next summer"
@reillymike84: @johnmerro1 ITK
@johnmerro1: @reillymike84 YES!

@TheChelsea****: @johnmerro1 Point taken, but who else needs him for £35m?
@johnmerro1: @TheChelsea**** All your rivals. City will pay £60m in particular.
@Pacmanlfc: @johnmerro1 @TheChelsea**** shocked they haven't come in this summer. They need English talent & are poor at the back. Stones a perfect fit.
@johnmerro1: @Pacmanlfc @TheChelsea**** They've been in touch. Only Chelsea don't respect the wishes of EFC in this window.

Well they used the term that we are 'smaller' which I beleive we are. Yes they are richer, and that has indeed helped them become bigger than us in the modern game. I don't enjoy saying it mate. It's really hard for me to claim us as a big club when we've not won anything for so long, and rarely show any ambition to remain a big club.

Fair enough if people don't agree, I can totally understand the reasoning.

I hope this twitter ITK is right because I saw another before saying his mate is friends with McCarthy's mate and he was saying it's been sorted for £32m. Does John Merro actually have contacts?
