John Stones transfer saga

@johnmerro1: Why #EFC won't buckle to Jose on John Stones this window. #CFC CL rivals will have been in touch..."We'll pay far more for him next summer"
@reillymike84: @johnmerro1 ITK
@johnmerro1: @reillymike84 YES!

@TheChelsea****: @johnmerro1 Point taken, but who else needs him for £35m?
@johnmerro1: @TheChelsea**** All your rivals. City will pay £60m in particular.
@Pacmanlfc: @johnmerro1 @TheChelsea**** shocked they haven't come in this summer. They need English talent & are poor at the back. Stones a perfect fit.
@johnmerro1: @Pacmanlfc @TheChelsea**** They've been in touch. Only Chelsea don't respect the wishes of EFC in this window.
Interesting

Well they used the term that we are 'smaller' which I beleive we are. Yes they are richer, and that has indeed helped them become bigger than us in the modern game. I don't enjoy saying it mate. It's really hard for me to claim us as a big club when we've not won anything for so long, and rarely show any ambition to remain a big club.

Fair enough if people don't agree, I can totally understand the reasoning.

Some people can't take the blue tinted glasses off.

It's similar to the Liverpool fans who go on about 5 times, we've won the league 18 times etc etc.

Preston North End have probably won more trophies than quite a few teams in the premiership but I wouldn't say they are bigger due to that fact.

Years ago, we were the club breaking transfer record's and using our financial strength, swings and roundabouts.

We are a bigger club than Chelsea judged by any yardstick you care to mention save the obvious one.

They are rich and we are poor.

And I don't even know if that is any criteria as Stoke City are richer than us but no on in their right head would say they are a bigger club.

Anyone who was at Wembley in 2009 saw with their own eyes how much bigger we are than them.....we must have outnumbered them two to one.

Put it this way......if some crooked Eastern European asset stripper or Middle Eastern oil potentate came in next Tuesday morning and poured the dough into EFC that Chelsea and Citeh had poured into them we would go back to dwarfing them both....again.

It ain't that long ago we were taking their best players because when the playing field was level we dwarfed Chelsea.

Pat Nevin and Graham Stuart both came here to play on a bigger stage.

Remember that, lids.

We may not have their money but by heck we have more style than they will ever have.

I don't get any more pleasure out of cheering crap millionaires than I would with talented ones.

We cash our grotesque Sky cheques just like everyone else. Only difference is that we've been too stupid to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the Murdoch era.
All true

but wouldnr you rather a leon osman in the team rather than a di maria whilst all that happened? lol

If Everton do manage to keep Stones this summer, they should spend the next year shamelessly selling themselves to him. Whatever it takes. It should be like Say Anything, only instead of a boombox, send Bill's theatre company to sing on his lawn.

With the increase and TV money and five players out of contract next summer, they'll have plenty of flexibility to offer him (and a few others) bigger contracts.

Ah, So a Chelsea fan all his life from London is not allowed to be happy they won the league, because they are rich ??!!

And when we won stuff, players played for free, and every one of them was a born Blue......and we never spent a penny!!

You are a deluded and very bitter.

I hope all our fans are not like this, and its very close to Liverpool fans attitude towards anyone who win.

It seems that nobody can win anything unless they get the approval of Scouse footy fans!!!

Not at all, you don't even know me you tedious gimp.

A Chelsea fan comes on here and tells us we are a small club.

I retort with a factually correct statement and you attack me.

Bore off you over over protective meff, they were nothing out of the ordinary until Abramovich turned up. He can be as happy as he wants and you can crack one off in the joy of it all with him.....but I stand by what I said.

That is quite simply not true though. We've not won a pot since 1995. It's embarassing.

Exactly my point. Rich comes and goes ... nobody takes your titles away from you. Why is our de facto way of describing a club based on the last 2-3 years?

How would saying "can't do much when a richer club comes calling for your players" be less effective than saying bigger?

"Richer" communicates the exact same thing while respecting history and avoiding pointless arguments.
