John Stones transfer saga

So they are more slickly marketed in the Far East than we are.

No surprise thwre, Wiz

I don't know if that would count toward the overall point scoring which compares one club's "bigness" against another.

I tend to go for the more tangible examples.

Put Everton and Chelsea in a neutral stadium anywhere in Europe.....including London.....and we will vastly outnumber them.

Just like at Wembley in '09.
That was our first final in 14 years. In that time Chelsea had won 4 FA Cups and been in the Champions League final the season before. Not a surprise their fans weren't as up for it as us.

Also, surely better marketing efforts is a sign of a better run club? It all stems from the Abramovic money obviously but that doesn't change the fact that it has happened.

Not at all, you don't even know me you tedious gimp.

A Chelsea fan comes on here and tells us we are a small club.

I retort with a factually correct statement and you attack me.

Bore off you over over protective meff, they were nothing out of the ordinary until Abramovich turned up. He can be as happy as he wants and you can crack one off in the joy of it all with him.....but I stand by what I said.

My response too. Anyone comes on an Everton forum talking us down is going to get a savage lesson in FFP from me.

I was as 'up for it' in the 89 final as I was in the 84 final...in fact, the Charity bloody shield was massive to me

They've got a much bigger global fan base and probably quite a bit bigger UK fan base, even if a lot of them are plastic.
There was some survey taken last year amid the whole Paris Metro incident amongst their fans proving their multiculturalism fan base blah blah blah but the funny part was that 90% of respondents admitted to being supporters since 2004 only. That's a hell of an amount who have no idea of bad times

I think ours fans would pack any final. We definitely have a more hardcore away following. But you don't win prizes for that nor is it a financial boost to the club. Our fan Base is still mostly local. The marketing dear God is woeful. Even in our own city. Just go in our club shop compared to the RS. What's available & the quality of it.

Take the money away and they are a yo-yo club. Same with City.

If they didn't have the money how many times do you think we would have qualified for the CL? I reckon at least twice and that's in our current state.

The money has allowed them to cheat (yes cheat) their way to the top and stopping the likes of us and spurs competing fairly. Imagine what a couple of seasons in the CL could have done for us.

Are we a bigger club? Too right we are.

But they do have that money.

100% agree. You never tire of winning things. I celebrated every win of our title league season of 87 exactly the same as I did in 85. In my eyes if you get 'bored' or aren't up for it just cos Chelsea have been in a few finals previously, adds weight to the arguement that many of them aren't proper fans.

I am not for one minute suggesting that Chelsea have a massive long standing global fanbase. But that is not what we are debating. They now have a much, much bigger fanbase than us as a result of the Abramovich money breeding success and then them being marketed successfully. Not just in Asia but in North and South America too.

My point is basically that they are not just currently bigger than us in terms of money as some seem to be suggesting.
