John Stones transfer saga

Unfortunately Liverpool's stance over Sterling has set a bit of a precedent. If you hold your nerve you remain in a strong position. People can't just cancel contracts.

They had Sterling for 2 years, refusing to play and his agent attacking the club and still got top dollar. We have Stones for 4 years. If Chelsea think they can turn his head they are missing the subtle changes that are occurring.

Never thought we'd ever take solace from anything the RS have done or do, but you are quite right. They said no until it suited them, and we have to do just that and some !!
Come on Everton, tell 'em all to sod off cos we don't wanna sell !!

Well they have acted in a very ballsy way but in many ways showed the way. Liverpool tend to negotiate very badly when signing players, but do very well when selling them. The lad is under contract for four years. if he tries to force a move through the threatens losing 4 years of his career. Not a sensible move on his part.

Why are we're we EFC encouraging this we could easily come out and say he is not for sale this is just sickening.

Exactly. The longer this goes without the club making it absolutely crystal clear that John Stones will not be sold, the more the media will ply their BS stories trying to force the sale to suit their favourite teams agendas.

Speak out loud and clear Everton - JOHN STONES IS NOT FOR SALE !!!

Didn't Roberto do that in that interview a couple of weeks ago?

He's said before that every player has their price so he can't really say that can he?

But with Stones still having four years to run on his current contract, surely we can state pointedly that he is not for sale? For at least two years at least anyway... just don't admit to that.

Evidently not robustly enough.
He's too media friendly, he needs to snarl a bit like SAF used to to really make his point heard and understood without equivocation !!
He can't do that, because when we sell him in a few weeks he'll look a right idiot.

Being firm in telling Chelsea a player is not for sale is fine, but I don't see the benefit to calling out Chelsea's business practices through the media. There's a difference in standing up to a bully and antagonizing him. One makes you look tough, the other makes you look petty.

There is also this small matter: Chelsea can offer Stones a contract big enough to make him forget how to spell Everton.

Not if we don't let them talk to him they cant. The rules are that they are that they must approach the club to ask for permission to speak to the player. All Chelsea are doing now, is using the press to let Stones know they are interested, and how much they are interested. This whole show by Mourinho is purely just saying, we want you.

Personally, I would speak to Stones and tell him, he'll get his move, at a time that suits us. It wont however be to chelsea regardless of what they offer us. We can just use Chelsea as a chip to get the price higher. There will be other suitors, and there will be better suitors for Stones. If he continues his rate of improvement for 2 more years or so, he'll be ready to give a decade of service at the VERY highest level, from where he'll not remember Chelsea exist, never mind being able to spell it.

All Chelsea are doing now, is trying to get him cheap, its their last chance before it gets to the point where even they couldn't afford him.

Last bit is absolutely spot on mate.
In the next year or two more teams will be able to compete for his signature with the sheer about of money that will be floating around in Football. On top of this, if he develops like we expect him too better teams than Chelsea will want him and will quite easily blow them away.

This Summer is the only real chance Chelsea have of getting Stones, and i genuinely dont think they will.

Perhaps if he did so again would be perfect ?
And then when the papers still insist on his Everton Departure, should he do it again? Obviously not!

Nothing needs to be said because it's all just bollox made up by some random, none of the stuff people are reading even has quotes etc - its just pure footy manager ffs

Every player does have their price, but its the selling club that dictates that, not the media, or the buying club. Our selling price currently is simply, more than your willing to pay, regardless of how much your willing to pay.

This.

It seems pretty likely to me that he'll go this summer. Unfortunately the nature of these things is that to push the price up and get value out of the deal we have to play this cat and mouse game, thus ruining another pre-season and unsettling our squad. The chances of us holding on to Stones when the champions are very publicly coming after him - with the promise of silverware, champions league football, and a massive pay increase - are sadly very slim.

Anyone that thinks he isn't for sale hasn't learned the lesson of rooney, rodwell, lescott etc. And that's just at Everton, we've already seen the same happen with Sterling and Delph this summer. It's one of the worst realities of modern football but sadly it's a reality.

If Martinez isn't saying "Stones isn't for sale" it's because it isn't true.
