John Stones transfer saga

Rooney was a bit different. He was throwing a you are not the boss of me now fit and not going to play for us. Basically Stones is "not for sale" as long as the price is wrong and whether or not Stones decides to pull a Rooney/Essien/Lescott. If Stones does decide to walk away or pull a I'm not feeling it routine then we'll be lucky to get 30M. Though he has a 5 year contract its not like Stones doesn't have all the power in this. Probably best case senario if we want to keep him is to give him a raise and promise that we'll find a buyer for you next season the way Soton did with Schinerdelin.

Say 35M or so isn't really a bad deal. Defenders aren't like attacking players you can find them a lot easier than strikers/attackers. We lost a bit attacking wise when Lescott left because he was so effective as a goal scorer but we probably got better defensively with the Milkman.

And speaking of Soton, they jettisoned their D, used the money to buy attackers, their D didn't suffer (and got better) plus they played some sweet footie last year. We desperately need a No.2 striker (unless you are counting on the Kone), a creative mid (unless you want all Osman all the time) and if we can get them players like Besic, will have less pressure to go forward/create, and can be a lot more effective on the pitch.
Rooney was being advised by a lot of people, some inside the club, that a move would be good for him. I'm sure when the time is right Stones will be made aware he's pushing at an open door too.

I'm not that convinced about Stones' greatness to be honest with you. I never thought last season that if we had Stones in the team we'd be ok. As far as I was concerned he was screwing up just like everyone else. Anything over £30M would be very good business. It's frustrating Chelsea dont cut to the chase. Then again, it's frustrating only because we have that shower in the boardroom who've obviously siphoned off the tv revenue that should have been Martinez's war chest making us dependent on a sale of Stones to Chelsea.

He's got a long way to go Stones. Let another club take the risk of turning him from very good to great. We have more pressing matters.

No we don't, not that can't be sorted out without having to sell the countries most promising young centre half.

Let's just say for one moment that we actually don't need to sell as Martinez has said and actually have a budget of around 20 m without selling other players.

Two players coming in could easily transform this squad if they get their act together. We have proper quality in key positions, by selling the likes of Stones it could possibly be viewed as a step in the wrong direction.

If we got mid 30's and the club cleared 30 million from it it would be a fantastic deal. We could add Van Dijk & Dragovich for that sort of money as well as having 10 million to put towards a creative midfield player.
We should hold out for a big price for Stones as I think they will pay it. I want to keep Stones too, but if he were to go the club will not implode.
This has to be our way forward. It's not ideal, but we can make a lot of good use with the cash.

I reiterate though: it's a disgrace that we get £35M in this summer and we're having to sell great potential in order to buy.

Dave...

Any sale of under £50 million is another failure to add to the list.

Stop trying to encourage failure.

Needs must I'm afraid.
As the clubs self appointed Sporting Director Dave...John Stones is NOT for sale. I don't think I can make this any clear @patvan

But how do you know what needs must. You don't have a clue what our transfer budget is anymore than I do. So why do you advocate selling a player now that is only going to increase in value?
That's true, I (nor anyone else) know that for sure...but here we are with 10 days to go until the season KO and we're short three players at least and have nothing in the pipeline.

I know what conclusion I draw.

Yes but wouldn't be allowed in a player registration transfer. Or it could lead to undue influence in the transfer policies of a club like Everton.

I don't know if you have ever seen a player transfer contract but the mutual agreement to change of terms clause is a standard term. The key is 'mutual'.

Nice thought, but do you see any compelling evidence that we do? I dont. Quite the reverse, in fact.

blue Bill should just say "Jose you sold that clown Luiz for 50m, i'll take 40m for John and you can consider yourselves very lucky"
