John Stones transfer saga

For what his comments are worth, Martinez did say we'd sign a couple at the beginning of the window and a couple at the end, which indicates we're looking at adding at least two more without necessarily having to make a major sale.

I guess we'll see.

Yes, he did. The only scenario that makes sense in that case though is that we'll have to wait until an auction gets going on one of our players to provide the cash for purchases. Of course, there's another theory knocking about that Martinez is waiting for cash to be released from the bridging loan that kicks in after July...but that's pretty lame.

That's a massive statement, Bryan. He's miles off. I'm Jagielka's biggest critic when he's screwed things up, but he was the defender last season that put the performances in during the last third of the season that made the difference. Stones has a lot of weaknesses in the defensive side of matters. He'll be an England player regularly enough, of course. But £30M+ is compensation enough for a eaw talent like this.

Not convinced he's got the ability to be a Pique, tbh.

I think you make a valid point re Jagielka. Over the next 12-24 months I see him as a more essential player than Stones. He will be able to bed in new partners and the younger defenders. He will also probably specialise in the type of defending that has always been a bit of an achilles heel for Martinez's teams.

Who is John Stone?

Thats him mate.

But you said you have a 100% record of knowing what our transfer budget is. What is it then?
Our transfer budget is constant: it's a negative net spend in all but a handful of seasons since Kenwright took control.

It's not that hard to predict this one will be the same....despite the new cash "available"

When I was in the boys pen with davek n byrin singing YNWA I always knew that John Stones would remain an Everton Player. As the Sporting Director of EFC None of our players are for sale. This season. I am prepared to listen to offers' for aidenmcgeasy and around kone.

Or we're looking at players with a year left on their deal and waiting to get best value, which one would infer means we have some funds but they're limited, and also that we might look at the loan market, which doesn't really get going until the end of the window.

Not saying you're wrong, I just kinda hope you are.

Honestly, I think he's got everything except positional awareness and more astute reading of the game. Other than that he's great in the tackle, good in the air and fantastic on the ball.

But imo those 2 things come with time and plenty of games, particularly alongside players like Jagielka.

The Arteta money dave
That's a big fear and possibility again. Cash in on a player with no time left to spend it.

Imagine if that happens this summer? As well as not spending the £35M of tv cash like every other club does, these carpet baggers also hold onto the lions share of cash in any deal for Stones.

I wouldn't put it past them.
