John Stones transfer saga

and discussions are understood to have taken place between chairmen Bruce Buck and Bill Kenwright regarding Chelsea’s initially aggressive pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Initially aggressive? At what point has it stopped being aggressive. That whole media article is yet another Chelsea driven article to try and get us to sell for cheap, because they know damn well that if they wait another year they'll be priced out of a move.

The whole saga is boring, and if our board sell for anything less than absolutely silly money then they will lose what little goodwill people have left for them.

"They obviously think we have a price that we will sell at. And we do, unfortunately . But does anybody in their right minds not believe that this time next year after another PL season and a Euro 2016 campaign that Stones won't be worth considerably more. .? This is simple business logic, nothing about whether we are a small club , big club , need the money , don't need the money. His value is increasing literally week by week. There is a risk he may suffer a major injury, loss of form whatever but more than balanced by the prospects that he will become an even better player. If we sell this season then we deserve the tag " small club" and add " run by small club mentality people"

Have they ?
Also from the Telegraph a few days ago, tbf a fairly consistent message, whether it survives higher bids who knows

Everton issued a written response to Chelsea to rule out the sale of John Stones, days before Jose Mourinho’s £20 million bid for the England defender was made public. Mourinho suggested at the weekend that the Premier League champions had not been discouraged from returning with an improved offer for Stones. But this view is contradicted by the timing and unambiguous tone of Everton’s reaction to the Chelsea bid, which was made early last week.

Everton wrote to Chelsea to reject the proposal and make clear that they had no intention of selling Stones. As far as Everton are concerned, their position could not have been clearer to Mourinho and the Chelsea board, which explains why Roberto Martinez, the Goodison manager, has responded so angrily to the public revelation of the offer in the past few days.

There is bewilderment at the Chelsea manager’s interpretation of the sequence of events, which evidently misreads Everton’s stance. Mourinho mischievously kept the door open for another Chelsea offer with his weekend comments.
...
Whatever Chelsea offer, Martinez wants the player, not a large cheque to reinvest. He has been trying to find a centre-half to cover and complement Stones and his captain, Phil Jagielka, so the prospect of having to buy two centre-halves in a month is unpalatable.

The stories of City making a bid are totally fabricated, and based on Noel Gallagher saying on talksport last night that, as a fan, he'd love to see Stones at City. They're interested, but don't want a bidding war and have other priorities atm.

Doing my head in now. Time to grow a pair Everton and act like the club you once were...tell them we don't get bullied into selling our players, we'll contact you if we want to sell...now do one

Hi all. Longtime lurker, first time poster and sometime ITK here.
Just so happens now is one of those times as Stonesy tonight signed a One year extension on his contract giving him a huge pay rise and establishing a minumum release cause that would make even Abramovich stop and think.
That is all.
