John Stones transfer saga

Why wouldn't I be serious? Why would I want us to sell him?

Are you saying we should sell him? Genuine question. Personally I'd like to see him at Everton, what with him being a good player.

We should be keeping our best players, and it's a sad reflection of the times that fans come out with things like "we should sell him next year for even more".

No, we should keep him. We kept Baines from Man U at he height of his talent, why not Stones?

I hope we keep him for good.

Why shouldn't we?

When the answer is obvious why.

I agree it is a sad refection when people know for a fact he will be leaving within the next 12-18 months, but that is exactly the business model we operate on.

Also, if he is keen to win things and play at the top level, then he simply needs to move on, as under the business model we operate we will never be able to offer him that.

I thought a level headed poster like yourself would fully understand that being honest, hence my question to you.

And hence my question to you, we kept Baines, why can't we keep Stones?

Because nobody was going to offer north of 30M for Baines, we are already nearly at 30M for Stones and that's just from one club! City, Utd or any of the other CL clubs haven't even got involved yet.
So are you saying we should sell him because he's worth a lot?

I understand the board will the cash, I'm not stupid, but there's no reason why we can't keep him.

Wanna get back up top, gotta keep our best players.

Why? Because Rio Ferdinand said he should join his former club?

In a way it may do us some favours. Puts a doubt in Stones mind about whether Chelsea really is a good place for him to go now "Rio" has spoken out against them.

I think this is fair. The closer we get to the season the less likely we are to sell him, especially given the shortage of centre halves we already have.

Yes pressure will build up nearer to the window. But once the season starts you often see a speeding up of players leaving, but of particular types of players. Normally it is ones who are discarded or not wanted who tend to move, as the selling club have to accept a lower price as they can't fit into their squad size. This is classically what will happen with Aaron Lennon.

For a player like Stones who is central to our plans, it is very unlikely any deadline day drama will come. Or if it were the price would be even more inflated. Just as with Fellaini his price increased by 15-20% on deadline day expect our asking price to increase from say 40 to 46-48 million for him.

No, I am saying we WILL sell him because he is worth a lot. lol
Ok. But consider this.

At the relevant times, a lot of people thought we'd sell Baines to Man U for a lot, and Jagielka to Arsenal for a lot, and Coleman to Man U for a lot, and Barkley to Chelsea for a lot.

All stayed. Some players move on as is natural in football, a la Arteta and Fellaini. Rooney was sold when the club was on it's uppers, however that's no longer the case is it?

Every club that isn't Real Madrid is a selling club, but we've kept more good players than we've sold though, I'm sure. So we can keep Stones, and we should.

Coleman and Barkley could both still go if they have decent seasons, they are both young and have a long playing career ahaead of them. Jags and Baines probably for whatever reason didn't fancy the moves and I commend them for it, it is nice to see a little loyalty these days.

I know every club is a selling club, apart from the real powerhouse of RM and probably Barcelona. You say we are not on our "uppers", however there is no evidence that we will ever compete in the top 4 again as it stands, therefore the likelihood of him staying are bordering between slim to none, if he continues to progress the way he does.

He will want to play European football if he has anything about him. The more other clubs around us improve their squads, the harder it will be for us to even offer him Europa League, therefore the likelihood of him staying a blue is very, very remote.

So if Jags and Baines didn't fancy it, who's to say Stones won't think the same?

If we keep selling our best players then this will remain the case. It's up to the club to convince the likes of Stones that it has ambition..and then build on it

Yes we should and I would be surprised if he went this season!

However, if the bid comes above the mid 30s, then there is a decision to be made, in my opinion. There are comparable players of his ability at this point, around Europe and world for around 10 million, their playing days and potential may not be as high reaching. Also Stones as any player, could go out against Watford and wallop, be out for the year and spend the rest of his playing days in pain and be half the player he could have been.

I seem to remember another lad who probably at such a young age didn't want to move, he made a cameo on sunday and everybody is still creaming their kex about it. I personally just saw it as a sad reflection of what might have been, if we had a half decent set of owners who would not sell their mother to keep Bill in charge here.

There is no way on this earth this board will not keep him if the offer is al large as we are finally expecting it to be. You know it and so do I, I feel this line of conversation is insulting to us both.
