Fellaini arguably didn't suit our style of play anymore and we got a ridiculous amount for him. He's nowhere near that value. If Roberto had wanted to keep him we could have, regardless of his transfer request. Arteta was never the same after his injury and his performances had declined, 10 mill was good money. Rodwell as well went with the managers blessing because he was offering nothing to the squad. In came Jelavic and Pienaar and we turned the season around with that money.
I genuinely think the only two examples of us being a 'selling club' were Rooney and Lescott with the latter again being an astronomical price. This is not bad at all in comparison to our peers. Even if you take the full list Rooney, Lescott Arteta Pienaar Rodwell Fellaini. Over a decade that is nothing compared to Owen, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Benayoun, Meireles, Kuyt, Reina, Suarez, Sterling OR Carrick, Modric, Van der Vaart, Bale, Berbatov, Keane. And they're just the ones off the top of my head. It's not even worth putting down Arsebal's sales. It's ridiculous for anyone to think Everton is a selling club. Since Rooney we have sold on the manager's terms when the money involved has made the deal more beneficial for Everton than keeping the player. I imagine the same will be the case for Stones. We will keep him until a value of money will be judged by the manager to be of more benefit to the squad than Stones the player. He's such a good player that it's unlikely a club will offer whatever the magic number is. We'll therefore be able to keep him.
