Kevin Ratcliffe believes if Chelsea offer over £30m for John Stones, Everton can't afford to turn it down. Chelsea have already had two bids rejected for the 21-year-old but are expected to return with a third offer before the transfer window closes.

Speaking on Merseyside Sport, former Everton captain Ratcliffe questioned whether the club would be able to keep Stones.

"They couldn't hang on to Wayne Rooney, we couldn't hang on to [Marouane] Fellaini for £28m. So I reckon if anything comes in around the £30m touch, then I don't think Everton can afford to turn it down."

Rooney & Fellaini - 2 players who handed in transfer requests to leave.

Stones hasn't and likely won't.

Man Utd wanted Baines - the club held on to him.

Ratcliffe is talking through his negative backside, as per usual.

I'm sure it's already been fumed about in this thread (not reading 400 odd pages!) but jeffin' hell, how blatant are Cahill and Ferdinand being in tapping him up. I'm just waiting for Kompany and Arteta to come out and plea City/Arsenal's case for him!!

Dirty tactics, trying to turn his head.

Fellaini didn't hand in a transfer request did he?

I mean it was obvious he was off but wasn't it a good thing he didn't?

He did, on transfer deadline day to force the deal through. He gave up a load of money by doing that, to ensure he got the move. Can't say we miss him but that's beside the point. We'd miss Stones.

Well, 1995 aside, in comparison to his playing days, we've been nowhere near the level we were at then so perhaps his negativity is understandable.

Don't agree with his statement about Stones btw, Fellaini and Rooney deals are not really comparible situations.
Baines is a much more comparible situation - Leighton was tempted to move (although not the type to force the issue) but he fit into Martinez's playing style and long term plans so despite the fact that was probably our best "economic" time to extract the most money from his sale, we didn't.

He goes OTT with the negativity though, there's no need
