John Stones transfer saga

If the next bid is 40 million then sure I'll accept it.

Otherwise, no. Just no. If Sterling is worth 49 million, then Stones is worth 40 easily. It's not like Chelsea don't have the money. They can pay up.

Sterling is not worth 49 million. It is just a fee that city paid for him.

It's daft to think that we're relying on selling Stones to buy players.

Even if we'd have spent £40mill right now, José would still want Stones. We'd still sell.

Increasing number of respected journos saying he will go once a bid of 30m+ comes in, can't help but agree with them and I'm absolutely gutted about it. The question I would like RM and the board to answer is this, these 3 signings RM has said we need, are these dependent on the Stones money or did we already have the money for them? I think we all know the real answer to this and it's beyond a pish take. If Stones goes we'll need 2 new centre halves 1st team ready, how is that going to happen when RM has so far failed to even bring one in?

I like this post except the first line regarding respected journos. Is there really any respected sports journalists out there any more?

I have this feeling. Somewhere I read that RM was leaving the business till near the end of the window!(n)

Makes sense that since we have a really easy start to the season and our preseason form has shown we only need a few minor tweaks, in safe hands with RM!!

Don't think in view of our injuries and what team we can put that it will be an easy start. We need to be wary of Watford.

A few, and none of them are saying john is going anywhere. It's all just click bait, one person writes a story based on nothing and the others follow.

The amount of them who have based entire articles on stones either wanting to go/telling the club he wants the move/got his heart set on a move to Chelsea, all laughable, we've played it perfectly, they've not got a single quote. Sad thing is nobody will call them out on it, nothing will change.

Quite an interesting back and forth between him and an Evertonian in the comments section
]Bluedylan Any chance any journalist is going to put Everton's perspective....you know, just as a novelty?
paul Wilson Here you go...http://gu.com/p/4an95/stw

Bluedylan Appreciate the direct response. I read that when it was published. So you're suggesting that the Everton perspective is simply 'you don't have any choice in the matter', which seems to sum up the article you linked. Howabout something to the tune of 'why don't Everton just reject the bids this summer and keep the player who is under a 4 year contract, given that his value will remain just as high next year or quite possibly increase?'

Paul Wilson Well they still might. But Chelsea are thought to be willing to pay £30m or so, someone close to the player is briefing that he is in favour of the move, and Everton's record in keeping their best players over the last few years has not been great. Let's just see what happens, bearing in mind what happened when Liverpool tried hanging on to Raheem Sterling. Theoretically Everton have a choice in the matter, in practice it is never that simple, though from an EFC point of view it is encouraging that the transfer window is ticking by and Chelsea seem to be going a bit quiet on the subject.
Paul Wilson, from Wigan I think, dad a blue, he habitually talks us down and damns with faint praise. Used to read him regularly in the Observer. Can't remember when I last read him write anything positive about us although I admit I have not read him in a couple of years because he wound me up so much. Clever writer but uses better style of English to peddle same Sky chosen few mantra of all of them. Apologies if he wrote something decent about us in martinez' first season. Probably needed anaesthetic to do it though!!!

But he isn't. That price included the now standard Man City 'double your money' premium applicable to all players they wish to buy. Chelsea are a little more sensible with their money, so maybe and hopefully they won't meet Everton's valuation and Stones will stay.

Ed, I am coming to the conclusion that Chelsea and Citeh have a "non aggression pact" when it comes to transfers.

They don't seem to get involved in bidding wars with each other.....certainly not for English players.

Chelsea gave Citeh a free run at wee Raheem......the latter are leaving the field clear regarding Stones.

They both know teams would be salivating at the thoughts of them trying to outbid each other for a player.

Interesting and probably true
