This ought to get rid of them...

Would be gutted to lose him and I think 20 Million is no where near enough

If he is to go, I think it should be for Sterling money

We'll struggle massively without him, and finding a replacement would be difficult, so Chelsea must be forced to pay a premium for him

We'll probably end up selling him for less though. mainly because Jose Mourinho is a shrewd man and the press won't be as willing to do us a favour regards to bumping the price up as they did for Sterling

Selling our best young player for Sterling level money would put us in direct comparison with Liverpool, and the amassed Kopite apologists in the media simply will not let that happen. They will do everything they can to not only get Stones out of our club but also get him out for less than Sterling went for

......not sure about the press influence but I agree that we don't want to lose him. Regardless, the club hold all the aces so we should ask silly money for him and stick to that figure. I certainly would be looking for £40m. If they don't want to pay it then fine.

I'm pretty sure the press won't get much of a say about what we value him at.

It saddens me that some folk seem prepared to accept Stones being sold albeit for potentially stupid money.
The lad hasn't asked for a transfer or, as far as we know, for permission to talk to Chelski or any other club.
He's on a long contract and has said he's happy to stay and continue to mature at Everton.
We aren't stupidly desperately in need of selling anyone (other than the absolute dross of the squad... fill in your own choice of names)
So given everyone within the club seems to be on the same page about Stones staying, issue a short statement categorically outlining that he's not for sale, doesn't want a move and tell the papers and media who then continue to rumour monger that they are barred from GP until they begin to respect both the player and the club !

60+ million for a top player that still has many years to develop.
I'd rather keep stones to be honest!

They'd be pretty stupid to think 20million is close tho. The fact he's English and young ensures they'd need to make a sensible bid with potential factored in. Which is stating the obvious really but it made me feel better about it.

Jagielka to Arsenal.

Baines to Man U.

They don't always go lads.

Baines not going was mostly down to them putting in a ridiculously low bid

It's all down to the bid really

I don't want Stones to leave, and I'm sure the club doesn't either, but if someone offers silly money I think the club will probably take it and then hope that we can get a decent enough replacement

Here's hoping he stays though. He's an integral part of the side

I'm no Kenwright / Elstone fan. Having said that I believe all businesses, which EFC is now, should be self sufficient. They should be able to stand on their own two feet without an "Abramovich".

Each year we edge closer to that point - and I say that with the end goal being, that we are able to keep a hold of our best players - in this case Stones and provide the manager with enough funding, each and every transfer window, to compete.

Look at the state of our club.

Solid manager.
Squad quality is arguably the best we've had in 20yrs.
Training facilities / youth setup is top draw.
Little to no debt in comparison to other clubs.

It's the stadium that's the massive missing piece.

Earlier this year Jianlin became the first Asian billionaire to invest in a european football club when he bought in to Atl Madrid. Many believe there's going to be plenty more money coming in from the Far East.

We're not exactly on the decline are we? Deluded? You're still suffering from David Moyes syndrome.
Sorry mate but being self sufficient is not relying on TV money which makes up an alarming percent of our total revenue, by the turn of the decade we will have the worse most inefficient ground in the league bar 1 or 2 recently promoted teams at that time. We have spent 4 million quid so far on the back of finishing 11th last season, when everyone acknowledges its better for your squad to complete a full pre-season together where as we are currently 20 days away from the start of the season, we have 2 CB's in the first team squad, no creativity in midfield, 1 striker of note a poor goalkeeper. And 3 if our best players are being linked with other clubs Macarthy stones Mirallas.

And you think we are on the rise? I'll have pint of what you're on. We are just existing, an that's why papers try selling our players because they know the make up of the club.

Hellfire, put it like that we might as well pack it all in.

I hope the hard ball approach we took to the baines/fellaini bids 2 years ago is adopted here. For all the rubbish being planted in the press by Chelsea trying to unsettle the player and induce him to say he wants to leave, we hold all the aces.

He is on a long term contract and I do believe martinez when he says we don't have to sell. There will be strong desire in the club to keep him and I don't think the player is the type to rock the boat although the whole Delph thing this week shows how quickly that can change.

Even then though, Delph had a clause in his contract for the fee. We aren't in that position here and can hold out.

The annoying part is this will now rumble on until the window shuts (assuming Chelsea don't make a bid so big that we take it) and could disrupt the start to our season. We have such a tough start that it's the last thing we need.

The sterling fee is in my view the bench mark fee. It all depends on how high Chelsea will go but if they start bidding £40m plus I can't see us rejecting it.

The thing is, of he goes, we need to buy 2 centre halves including a new starting centre back. A lot of the fee would be on those players so it's not even like we'd be able to really improve the squad with the money, even at £40m.
