John Stones transfer saga

This is symptomatic of the modern game at the Prem level, 'small' clubs are expected to know their place and keep the obscene hype well oiled for the benefit of the 'real clubs' where the action and interest is.

For me it is not just about whether Martinez is good or bad, or our buying/selling policies, or whether we playing plodding football or not, or we pick oldies or youth, it is the fact that we have been left light years behind and these micro aspects are all symptoms of that. We occupy a different footballing universe to the rich clubs, and the disparity, with the Premier League's blessing, gets worse each season.
In Slovenia recently on holiday, I saw kids walking around in Chelsea tops, and there is a dedicated Chelsea channel on their national TV. We simply don't exist in that world. In Sky's hyped-up world, our role is to be the stupid sap, to know our place, sell our better players onto the real clubs and just occasionally have the audacity to beat one of them so that Sky can then purr away about the Prem being the best league in the world before they wet themselves once again at the prospect of Chelsea playing Man Utd.

Players leave. Get over it.

We lost Sinclair, Allen, Vorm, Davies, Sigurdsson, Bony and we are stronger than ever. If you don't replace well, it's your fault. Look how Atletico and Sevilla have done after constantly selling players.
This isn't the time or the place. If you're not an Everton fan you shouldn't be here right now. Come visit again later though.

Look lets get something straight. There's no difference between the board and the manager. Martinez is ultimately in control of the situation but he can't stop Stones from handing in a transfer request. Whether he sells him or not will be his call.

Where the board are at fault is not providing any of the TV money to Martinez to strengthen the squad without having to sell Stones.

Course there is a difference. You said it yourself; the board arent giving him the TV money so hes not in control at all.

Sells Stones

Tries to buy Yarmalenko....

Kiev owner:'£40m for Stones? We want £25m'
Martinez to Bill: 'Bill, can we afford it....'
Bill: 'No sorry Bob, we only have £15m to spend, we need to protect the club from Bankruptcy'.
Martinez to Kiev: 'We offer £15m still'
Kiev: 'No deal'
Martinez: 'Hello? Is that Jonny Evans'
Evertonians... lose will to live.

Was told this last week that it was happening so not surprised. Also by the father of one of the players after the game on Sunday, so it must be pretty common knowledge inside.

Chelsea have played the snidiest of games with the willingness of the media and that should never be forgotten. This is how modern footie is though. It's patting little Everton on the head.

One year after a five year contract and he's barely into his twenties. He thinks he's outgrown Everton.

I still wouldn't sell him. Too much water under the bridge now to sell up. Even if that means he's dropped from the team for a bit.

If we did sell then the price for every player we would subsequently go for would go up so its a hopeless task.

Hold your nerve Everton.

Can't wait they come to Goodson in October. The ground is going to be like a bear pit

I hate Chelsea and all they represent

All of those players are worse than Stones.

Also, selling now means no chance to properly identify and scout a replacement.
