John Stones transfer saga

yes but i wouldnt say Kenwright is to blame, hes done alot for this club and picked us up from terrible finacial difficulty and made us into a consistant top 7/8 club. the only thing in my mind which he has failed at is selling us but i wpouldnt blame the guy for stabalising the club from where we were when he took us over. everton fans quickly remember the good times but also quickly forget the trouble we were in, in the 90s

He hasn't saved the club though mate. He hasn't invested a single penny. He HAS sold every asset off the field. He HAS failed to find investment for 16 years. He HAS failed with 3 new stadium projects. He is what you call a carpet bagger, an asset stripper. Somehow, cash is pouring out of this club. And his only defence, he's an Evertonian and he leaves the financial detail to people who know. Name the prince and just leave now Kenwright and take your cronies with you.

To think some even thought he would want to stay, he's only been here 2 years and then Mourinho, Champions league footy, challenging for the Title, playing with boss footballers not to mention tripling your wages and living in London comes along. He was only ever going to want to leave, it was just a case of if he would make them feelings known publicly and now he has. Good luck to the lad, I would have liked to see him stay but we'll get decent money for him and as long as we spend it I don't think we'll do to bad out of this. Whilst the lad looks as though he'll end up a player at the moment he's not even the best defender at Everton.
I agree with what you're saying on the reasons why. But why wish him good luck? At best you can surely only be indifferent to how he performs in the future.

And still the club say nothing...

why should they say anything?

are you selling stones? - no
are you selling stones (after the first bid)? - no
are you selling stones (after the second bid)? - no
are you selling stones (after the third bid)? - no
would you sell stones if he handed in a transfer request? - no

Kind of immaterial honestly.

Bill may have been the right man to stabilize Everton. He is also clearly not the right man to push us past being stabilized. And it's genuinely worrying where we will be in 10+ years unless we establish some form of revenue that is not based on Sky.

That stretches plausibility though mate. That would mean he's gone from saying "yeah I'm sound Bill, no worries staying, feel free to say no sale like" to "I'm out of here, please sell me now, I really don't want to play for Everton, COME GET ME CHELSEA!"

The moment the first Chelsea bid was made, we would have talked to the player. I don't think his opinion has changed, and the timing of this request after the last home game of the window makes it crystal clear to me what the board have done here. Again.

That's putting a pretty silly spin on it and is not the only possibility.

Plenty of things could have happened within the past week which may have changed his mind and made him decide to put in a transfer request. Improved terms from Chelsea, promises of playing time, further talks between his agent and both clubs. It's a little bit ridiculous to try and blame the board when you are not party to the situation in any way other than what you've seen on the internet.

i remember the 90's, i sat there thru the durge the smith and walkers teams served up.i also remember when bill bought us off Johnston and thinking it was a decent short term fix, but that was then
there's no room for sentimentality in todays game, the board have consistently showed a small club mentality, and if anything its becoming increasingly difficult for the club to shake the image this weakness portrays and that why our better players are constantly linked to other clubs.

its a sad state of affairs culminating in todays events

Has anyone mention handing in a transfer request with less than a week left is the best scenario that kenwright could hope for?
Completely wash the responsibility of him deciding to sell, save some loyalty money and most importantly I'm sure we're not going to spend all of the incoming transfer fund and everything will be swept under the carpet few months later with no repercussion on himself whatsoever.

It's all a con; Everton release a statement and the od

Or its gone from we'll offer you this amount of monet to THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY; or, more likely, word has got through that you will be an immediate starter.

Nobosy knows whats gone on in the background, its all speculation on everyones part

Oh I think we have for sure. I think we were well aware he was interested in Chelsea.

That's exactly my point. This transfer request isn't out of the blue - we knew it was coming, we knew the timing of it. This has been pre-meditated weeks out by the board, for the very reason of getting this deal done as late as possible.

How do I know? Because if it wasn't, we would have done business early - because Stones' position would not have changed.

That's why it's beggars' belief to me that Evertonians still think the sun shines out of Bill's arse. How many times does this have to happen before it clicks?
If reps were still possible, this gets maximum. How anyone can not see this whole scenario as having been long orchestrated defies belief.

So to clarify, you don't blame the club at all for not sitting down with the player and talking to him for the last month this has been happening, and truly believe John Stones has kept his desire to go to Chelsea a complete secret until this afternoon?

You honestly believe that? Really?
Perhaps not, but the club has said time and time again that they won't sell him, if Stones would have wanted to go to Chelsea why wait until this late in the window to go public with it? If he would have stepped forth earlier when Chelsea came with their first two offers he would have given Everton a fair chance to sign up a good replacement. By putting this forth now, with a week left of the transferwindow, he is almost guaranteed to receive a negative respons to it from the Club. With all due respect to Mori (if he gets the permit), he is an unknown and we need another reliable central defender to partner Jags.
By waiting this long he will face a bigger wrath from the Everton fans. I understand his desire to leave for the champions, but his timing is awful and reminds me of the time when Lescott left by a similar fashion.
