John Stones transfer saga

Gutted to be honest.

Right now my immediate feeling is I'm angry at Stones for wanting out after playing a handful of games after signing a 5 year deal. Is that wrong of me ?

I'm also angry at Everton. Every time we sign one of these very low value commercial contracts with Chang or Kit Bag or whoever we are forcing this situation on ourselves.

If other clubs have more money than us this will always happen so we either accept it or start demanding change.

Lets be honest nothing has really changed since Rooney handed in his transfer request over 10 years ago.

look back to the rooney saga ...exactly the same in many ways.
the club say he is not for sale .... players puts in transfer request and is sold.

the fact is , the club knew they were selling rooney , if we didn't sell him we would have gone bust.
my opinion is the board always wanted to cash in on stones , had no money for transfers and knew a request would come eventually .its a get out of jail free card.

no excuses , if stones goes , the board has to go. 3 choices ... they can turn down the request , or they can walk out or they can be thrown out.
no lip service of players transfers in is going to smooth over the cracks .... this summer is the final straw and I for one one don't want them hanging around just to cash in on selling our other talents and making a buck when the tv money grows the value of the club.
stones goes now ? then bill and co go by end of September by every means necessary .

I didn't say it was totally impossible - I will say however that it is incredibly unlikely given how this has played out. It'd be a complete 180.

It's not incredibly unlikely lol

A player being pursued by a top tier club changes his mind when push comes to shove and he's faced with the prospect of another year at Everton. That is hardly shocking stuff. He knew he had until the end of the month to make a decision and when it has come down to the wire he is choosing to jump ship.

That is not a 'complete 180' as he has never come out and said he's definitely staying.

So to clarify, you don't blame the club at all for not sitting down with the player and talking to him for the last month this has been happening, and truly believe John Stones has kept his desire to go to Chelsea a complete secret until this afternoon?

You honestly believe that? Really?
I didn't realise you knew the inner workings of the club so well. Personally, I have no idea what discussions have been held with Stones over the past month. I would be surprised if we had not talked with him about it as I can't see how it would not have been discussed given the amount of media coverage on it. My own guess is that he has been non-committal at best to the club uo to now, but has now been put under pressure from Chelsea to put in a transfer request.

he did save us, its known we we on the verge of finacial meltdown. what assets has he sold? dont say the training ground because that was a sh** hole and we have one of the best training facilities there is in the league now. and yes the stadiums where a farce but i dont even know where to begin with that.

It's easier for you to list what assets the club still owns rather than me telling you what we've sold. The club has no assets other than what is on the pitch. go and look the thread titled Accounts and Financial stuff if you need more details.

And you cannot ignore Bellefield in this farce. Just like you cannot ignore how we sold finch farm for a pittance and the amount of money we now have to pay in rent to the city council who bought it cos the Board couldn't raise £11m to buy it.

That stretches plausibility though mate. That would mean he's gone from saying "yeah I'm sound Bill, no worries staying, feel free to say no sale like" to "I'm out of here, please sell me now, I really don't want to play for Everton, COME GET ME CHELSEA!"

The moment the first Chelsea bid was made, we would have talked to the player. I don't think his opinion has changed, and the timing of this request after the last home game of the window makes it crystal clear to me what the board have done here. Again.

Everything that happens isn't a conspiracy though is it. You're giving people way too much credit.

Anyone who has ever been offered a better job elsewhere and lets face it, that's what this is, will have gone through the same emotions and have taken time to make a decision, speaking with close friends and family members etc.

For the me the fact that Terry has been subbed at half time for the first time in ages, and now been sent off, with a lot of pressure put on the defence by Mourinho at the same time, this will have opened the door for Stones to feel that he could well end up first choice in a Champions League, Title chasing side and pretty much guarantee himself a starting place for England at the Euros.

From a professional point of view it's a no brainer really.

Everton seem to have a policy whereby if someone leaves they have to hand in a tfr request, for me that's not a bad policy to have, it's ensuring the club get maximum return and the player doesn't get a loyalty bonus that he doesn't really deserve.

But the club don't have to sell if they don't want to. Stones is under contract, Moyes forced Arteta to stay one more season, it's been done before. I just hope if he does go we get £40m+ and Martinez doesn't waste the money on 29 year old journeymen.

Hence why i said if we sell its the lowest point in our modern day current history, if not since relegation many moons ago

That fat, permanently-concerned grandad better tell him 'no', and throw some money at a tasty playmaker and all...

...but whilst we're all ardently speculating I will throw my hat in and say that Stones was given confidence much earlier than the reported bids that he could have his big move, and that this transfer request signifies his frustration at Everton holding out for a bigger offer and effectively jeopardising it. And perhaps Martinez's comments/Woods have been the final straw.

In which case, there is either a boss plan already in place that is ready to be sprung as soon as he goes, which hopefully involves us spending some money... or the more likely and Everton-esque approach that we have kind of banked on him staying, like soft-arses, and as a result will find it hard to spend that money in the right way; despite the inactivity punctuated with Boberto's soundbites about getting the 'right players' all summer long.

I know it's contrary to what has been put out there by the club and Martinez, and you could rewrite the narrative any way you like.

But I think the firmness of Roberto's comments/stance has been overstated a little and the club's has been pretty quiet apart from the refusal of bids - an action that I believed at the time spoke louder than anything... But I've got my tin foil out now and I think the timing of this transfer request points to one thing: a) Stones is a bit of a berk and not the down-to-earth Barnsley lid we all thought him to be or b) he has been told he can go and is getting worried now that we were going to pull a 'slow' one.

or c) I'm distraught and should remove said tin foil from my bonce, and move away from the internet.

Lads, we really don't give a monkeys who the real <whatever> is. Sort it out between yourselves via messaging.

It's not that though, he's someone I used to know and is Impersonating me. We're this done random website I would mind but the timing is nit only massively suspect but he's said stuff to me in PMs that this other guy used to.

Maybe Stones said he's interested in a transfer (like Baines did), and the club said he won't be going anywhere and that all he needs to worry about is the current campaign (like they told Baines).

Stones considered that, waited to see if Chelsea would come in with a bid that would win them over. Once Chelsea were linked with some other centre half, his agent told him he needs to force a move and now.
