John Stones transfer saga

That's putting a pretty silly spin on it and is not the only possibility.

Plenty of things could have happened within the past week which may have changed his mind and made him decide to put in a transfer request. Improved terms from Chelsea, promises of playing time, further talks between his agent and both clubs. It's a little bit ridiculous to try and blame the board when you are not party to the situation in any way other than what you've seen on the internet.

He couldn't have received any of those assurances mate, because we have not accepted an offer for the player and we have not given permission for the player to talk to another club. What you are describing would be called 'tapping up'.

why should they say anything?

are you selling stones? - no
are you selling stones (after the first bid)? - no
are you selling stones (after the second bid)? - no
are you selling stones (after the third bid)? - no
would you sell stones if he handed in a transfer request? - no

Would love this to still be the case come 1st Sept - but too cynical now. I give up on this thread as from now !

That stretches plausibility though mate. That would mean he's gone from saying "yeah I'm sound Bill, no worries staying, feel free to say no sale like" to "I'm out of here, please sell me now, I really don't want to play for Everton, COME GET ME CHELSEA!"

The moment the first Chelsea bid was made, we would have talked to the player. I don't think his opinion has changed, and the timing of this request after the last home game of the window makes it crystal clear to me what the board have done here. Again.

It's not unplausable whatsoever really though.

It's quite possible through all this Stones said he doesn't want to go unless we're happy to sell him, if not he'll stay.

Then the more he thought about it and the closer it got to deadline day he decided that he wanted to leave knowing there was an offer on the table.

It's called changing your mind.

Although it's more than likely your scenario (due to knowing how Everton work) , it wouldn't be totally impossible for it to simply be a change of heart.

What great timing, Chelsea media aka Sky.com let everyone know that they are now interested in another C/B called Garay. Stones then asks for a transfer.

Why did he wait until now to turn it in? That's worse than doing it like Sterling.

Let him rot in the reserves i say.

He hasn't saved the club though mate. He hasn't invested a single penny. He HAS sold every asset off the field. He HAS failed to find investment for 16 years. He HAS failed with 3 new stadium projects. He is what you call a carpet bagger, an asset stripper. Somehow, cash is pouring out of this club. And his only defence, he's an Evertonian and he leaves the financial detail to people who know. Name the prince and just leave now Kenwright and take your cronies with you.

he did save us, its known we we on the verge of finacial meltdown. what assets has he sold? dont say the training ground because that was a sh** hole and we have one of the best training facilities there is in the league now. and yes the stadiums where a farce but i dont even know where to begin with that.

Has anyone mention handing in a transfer request with less than a week left is the best scenario that kenwright could hope for?
Completely wash the responsibility of him deciding to sell, save some loyalty money and most importantly I'm sure we're not going to spend all of the incoming transfer fund and everything will be swept under the carpet few months later with no repercussion on himself whatsoever.

Plenty have mentioned it mate and plenty have also reminded us that this would certainly not be the first time history has been repeated in exactly the same way. Yet to follow... shift the blame onto the player, the manager, etc etc

I didn't say it was totally impossible - I will say however that it is incredibly unlikely given how this has played out. It'd be a complete 180.

It certainly does - glad you saw I was being facetious!

That's my entire point; the player was tapped up from the off, we knew the player was interested, and how it's played out from that point has been orchestrated.

But that doesn't mean the board pushed him to put in a transfer request.

Players and other clubs in football regularly act poorly, you can't just automatically blame Kenwright.
