Must say Stones has disappointed me in handing in a transfer request, but get shot now for megabucks, worried about leaving us short at centre back unless Martinez can get someone in of quality & proven in the Premier !!

Well like I said, I don't think it's anything to do with that. I think the news that Chelsea were 'on the verge' of signing another centre back is actually what has caused him to hand in a transfer request. Too much of a coincidence that the two happened in the same day.

Stones has been linked to putting in a transfer request for almost a week now and teams get linked with players all the time.

I guess we'll never know but either way he wants to move to Chelsea. I hope United come in with £50m now.

Only two entities are in control of this situation — Chelsea and Stones' agent.

It was clear at the start of summer that Everton would sell once the price was right. The problem for us is that we can't bargain like Spurs or Liverpool. If Stones was there he'd go for £10m more.

Football in the 21st century for a club like Everton is purely about staying in the league and selling players for more than you paid for them.

The transfer request is just a sign that Chelsea have finally indicated they'll pay something close to our asking price. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sad night to be a blue...thought he would have given us another year and gone after the euro's. I'd love us to tell him to do one and make a stance but can see him going now. Got to be a min of 40 million, would have been 50 given another season
