John Stones transfer saga

You're a proper whopper.

Basically what you're saying is exactly what i mentioned in my post.

OH ITS CHELSEA WE HAVE TO RESPOND ALL NICEY NICEY BECAUSE WE ARE EVERTON.

Nah [Poor language removed] that.

I'm happy to discuss a difference of opinion with anyone on this forum if they're so inclined, but I very much doubt it would accomplish much if we're just going to sit here calling each other names.

I've given my thoughts on the matter and you've given your thoughts on the matter. Why can't we just leave it at that?

What he said would have (in my eyes) crossed the line had it been Bournemouth. It's one thing to hit out at United after they went out of their way to deride the club. This, though? Leaks are nothing new in football, and are now very much a part of the landscape.

Kenwright claims to have a good relationship with Chelsea. Why not call them up and say: "We've done business together in the past, and we'd like for that continue. However, if you wish for us to do business together in the future, keep it out of the papers."

Pride and ego are rampant everywhere, but particularly at this level. Martinez satisfied his own ego today, and I'd expect Abramovich or Mourinho to respond. Whether that has an impact on Stones remains to be seen, but it doesn't exactly benefit the mutual relationship between the two clubs.
Has he bollo cks! Did you not read the snippet from the Telegraph I posted above?

Martinez clearly knew that Mourinho had publically given interviews to the media saying he wants John Stones and these are apparently going to print this evening.

Martinez had every right to be annoyed with that and say what he did. In fact, I think he's been rather lenient!!!

I actually hadn't seen it until you posted it, and it does mollify me a bit. Still, I think there are better ways to handle these situations.

Second bid incoming I fear.
No doubt about it. The media just won't let this go either.

It's the Sunday's this evening and it's blatantly obvious what the next stage is going to be.

"Stones has told "close friends" that he's desperate for the move and is set to hit Everton with a transfer request to push the move through".

Can see it coming a mile off.

Mourinho has gone public in an effort to strong arm Everton in to selling, Martinez has gone public with his response, once Chelsea start negotiating through the press, Everton have no choice but to respond in kind. Martinez did very well here, no one should be criticizing him for defending the club so staunchly.

And we stand our ground and then turn the deal down

Depends sadly.

A - if they bid something stupid then we'd actually be daft to say no.

B - I'm starting to wonder if we have any money to spend. As usual. It may give the manager some spends.

Seems obvious doesn't it?

Sadly when the champions want someone, they more often than not get them.

Oh some will mate don't worry about that!!

Sounds promising, I expected silence. Which would leave me to believe they want to sell? Not a firm no like he has done today.

Team like Chelsea come in for a player, Everton can use all the 'not for sale' rhetoric that they can muster but he's gone. Now it's all about getting the highest price. Anyone who thinks it's going any other way has clearly learnt nothing.

Whatever my views on Martinez's ability as a manager the comments that he has made are fully what I would expect of an Everton manager. Well done lad!!

This was coming, I'm actually surprised more of our players haven't been the target of bids from lesser clubs than Chelsea. You can't preform like we did last season and not have players looking to their future. If we play the same tactics again this season and get the same results we will not be able to hang unto any quality players. From here until the winter transfer window is critical for the future of our club. We need to hang onto the players we have and get things right in the first half of the season or the players will be thinking of moving on to avoid another end of season scramble.

For what's it's worth I think your wrong. John stones would be better off footballing wise at Everton this season. Chelsea will still be there next season!!
