John Stones

Do you really think right now he one of the best 4 English CB's? Just his lack of experience should keep him out of contention. Imagine the pressure if he has to play in one of the big matches. Any mistakes he makes will be scrutinised 10x more than at Everton.

Hope they've tied him down to a long-term contract or are planning to ASAP. The vultures will be circling as we speak.
The great thing thing about Stones is that he is not just your typical English centre-half-he actually looks like he could play on the continent as well.

As he's on the stand-by list does that mean he will miss the u21 tourny at the end of the month?

The U21's squad for the Toulon Tourney is set to be named this week, it runs 22 May to 1st June. England (seniors) play a friendly at Wembley against Peru on 30 May and Hodgson then has to confirm his final squad on 2 June. so he could play for the under 21's and still be available for the World Cup, but will they risk an injury?

Edit:- the Under 21's have a friendly on the 19th May v Wales. The Toulon Torney is for the Under 20's.

so a few of us need Jones to be unfit to get our bets up, pray fellow blues!

....sounds like he's going to be fine, apparently 2nd June is the date he needs to prove it. Just hoping Stones really impresses in which case they might make the decision for Jones. Alternatively, need young Ross to give Jones a hefty 'accidental' shoulder barge getting into the team hotel lift. Regardless, it wasn't the worst 66-1 bet we'll ever have.

Erm yes!!

After jags, Cahill and terry I'd say stones. That's not being biased either...Smalling and jones are average players living off the fact they play for utd! Imagine stones had been playing for utd this season and Smalling for us....who goes?? I bet you stones everytime!

Lad has done amazing, playing with Barnsley last season FFS..

He (stones) will be in the squad for the WC. As soon as England have a training session jones will make his customary attempt to clear a daisy cutter with his face and injure himself yet again.

Cahill is #1.
But genuinely think Stones is better than any other options, including Jags.
I thought Jags around October/November when he had become accustomed to the new style was fantastic.
But he has looked pretty poor the last couple of games coming back from injury, hopefully game time will improve it.

Although I agree Cahill is the better defender, he has played second fiddle to Terry so long that he hasn't had to organise the defense regularly like Jags and don't think it is one of Hart's strengths either. A back four of Johnson, Stones, Cahill and Baines would lack leadership plus Cahill looks very uncomfortable playing on the left.

Can't believe Cleverly and Carrick made the standby list before Barry, if Gerrard picks up an injury or suspension they don't have any good holding midfield options.

Obvly I agree that. Barry would be the better option but I think Fat Frank is the other holding player, played pretty well there against the scum
