John Stones

He can play both. Think he played right back for Barnsley but the long aim goal is for him to become a centre half. Martinez sometimes likes to play with 3 centre halves and wing backs, at the moment I think Stones would be well suited to the RCB posited if RM ever opted to play such a formation.

I thought Stones was a right back when he joined.

Has he been converted to a central defender?

He played as a right back at Barnsley but I'm not sure if that was because they didn't have a good right back or he just had to be played but they didn't want a 17/18yo playing CB so early in his career so they played him at RB, I'm really not sure.

There's something about him that I really like so I've kept a very close eye on him whenever he plays. He's got the size of a CB (still needs to put on some weight but that will come), has all the abilities to play as a CB and will be developed into a CB by Martinez but he can also put in a shift at RB when needed.

dug this thread out, seems to be a feeling Stones might play a part today against Stoke. Isn't this what we've waited for, after giving Ross his wings,RM showing his faith in his younger players.
who knows, maybe this young man will be Davie Moyes best signings for us.best of luck to him if he does get his chance.

If distin is out ? Going to be a killer if its him and alcaraz together as I would imagine they've probably hardly had anytime together and also both right sided players.

Would be great to see how they would do together though in terms of building from the back.

Alcaraz is left footed.

Thought he was excellent today, not an easy place to go especially with the bad weather & playing along side Alcaraz, which was his 2nd game of the season. Both players looked very fluid with ball possession.
