His confidence on the ball is astounding; without the ball and defending space in the box I still have huge reservations.

Played well. Of course the opposition had poor movement compared to what he'll face in other games. He's going to be learning on the job, I suppose. Not an ideal situation for us; I still cant believe a CB wasn't brought in during the summer window.

I think it's about time to throw him into the mix regularly. If we view Stones as a potential starter, and I think most of us do, another centre half would have left us overcompensated unless we offloaded Alcaraz. Surely gametime is the only way we'll find out if Stones is the player we all hope he is?

Oh he is still learning Dave, no doubt, but the qualities on the ball are a lot harder to coach than those without it. If that makes sense.

i love the fact martinez made this change to break up the centre defence. wouldn't be too surprised to see mccarthy and gibson on thursday together - it would probably be my preference. we have a good squad, we don't need to be playing barry 3 times in a week so early in the season.

Distin was injured. Stones might well have played anyway, but Distin would deffo have been in the squad had he not had a knock

Decent shout to be honest. Was Distin injured. He wasn't even sub. Jags did ok today but Distin has the aerial power needed in this league. Heart was in my mouth every time they got a corner. Good win though.

But he was boss today. Jags and Distin always look rushed. Stones actually calms down the rest of the defence - and he's 20!
