His confidence on the ball is astounding; without the ball and defending space in the box I still have huge reservations.

Know what you mean, I don't have huge reservations in those areas, but, for sure, he was some improvement to make there. But they can be taught, confidence on the ball in a centre half of his age is much harder, if not nigh on impossible, to teach.

He'll make mistakes, and learn from them. He's too good to ship out on loan or just save for the cup games, so he'll learn in the spotlight. He seems to have the personaility to cope with that.

Decent shout to be honest. Was Distin injured. He wasn't even sub. Jags did ok today but Distin has the aerial power needed in this league. Heart was in my mouth every time they got a corner. Good win though.
Yeah heard he got a knock in training, dunno whether it just means he was the one for the chop though!

I think people are far too quick to point out the mistakes he makes. You are correct about this ability on the ball...that's just natural talent that will only get better. However, his mistakes I think are blown out of proportion because of his age...Jags and Distin make mistakes as well...even last year...every center half does. They are given a bit of a pass for their odd mistakes, because they have built a body of work that makes folks feel comfortable. This lid proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt last season, that he is boss, and will only get better.

Personally I think we have a World Class center half on our hands here. It's not a matter of if, but when IMO.

I agree. Come back in three or four years and I'd be surprised if we're not saying he's the best British centre half since Bobby Moore.
It's not guaranteed like, other huge talents have failed to deliver over the years, but I reckon this lad really will be that good.

Please don't bypass the swear filter by missing a letter oof
John Stones, though I've only seen him a few times, he's slow, he doesn't see danger quickly enough, his distribution is second rate, he is not brave enough, the rest of the team can see that he is a [Poor language removed] liability and when he plays at full back even Hibbert can cross it better, also, he is very like Jamie Carragher.......never passed the ball forward since the
Falklands conflict. In the late 1970s I felt exactly the same about another young full back we had, His name was
Kevin Ratcliffe.

He only played due to Distin's injury but Stone's performance and the fact we finally kept a clean sheet should be the beginning of the end of Distin's Everton career, can't see him starting over Stones in the league again unless the later needs a rest or gets injured. It'll be interesting to see how the Stones/Jags partnership develops given how well Stones did alongside Distin
