Exactly so he didnt put "faith" in Stones he waited until one of his old hands was crap.
Who exactly was past it and played on for 3 years?
More history being re-written i suspect
He got his chance because of injury, just like Coleman. That's fine.
However, the injured players in question were slightly different. Comparing Jags/Distin of last season to Hibbo/Neville of a few seasons ago is a totally different kettle of fish. We could have had Sergio Ramos on the bench, but nothing but an injury would displace Jags/Distin last season as they were brilliant.
Coleman meanwhile spent his first season under Moyes on the bench/on loan, then the entirety of his second season at RM.
Oh and... then in his third season, guess where he played? RM again. When in the squad that is. In the 12/13 season -- Coleman's FOURTH season -- injury presented Moyes with no option other than to play him at RB.
Meanwhile it took Martinez until early 2014 to put Stones in at CB regularly (a much tougher position for a young player). Yes, it wasn't until our fourth game of the season this year that he put him in again, but we had Jags/Distin both fit, and we all thought that was the right decision. Who knew what would happen? Didn't take long for Stones to return though.
And obviously I meant Phil Neville. But then Cahill went on for a good 18 months past his sell by date, Osman spent about 10 years in the wrong positions. Etc Etc.
I am no Martinez super fan, in fact a quick perusal of my posts this season will show the opposite, but I am not a rewriter of history either. Moyes was far more stubborn and a lot, lot slower to change than Roberto. So back to the original point, Moyes did not "put his faith" in Coleman. Rather, he signed him for an irresistible bargain fee, and then put him into the team in his actual position in his FOURTH season, when he had no options left and had to play a RB who didn't fit his style of "Defend first, then defend second as well actually. Just defend ffs".
