No point picking on the lad after yesterday's performance, bar Howard nobody had a particular good game. This is without doubt his poorest performance for us but if everyone else is all at sea it's bound to be difficult for a 19 years old defender, with less than 10 premier league starts to his name to hold his own.

Give the kid a break, he's a star in the making.

The minority getting on his back don't have a clue about football. Its pathetic, it really is. They'll ruin this young lad.
He shouldn't be exempt from constructive criticism though. I think most hope he develops into the player he could be, but you can't just ignore deficiencies in his game. He will make mistakes because of his age, but we do have points and position at stake as well. He's not immune to fans assessing him and his performance.

deficiencies in his game implies regular mistakes.
he has not made any regular mistakes that are worthy of real concern.
pointing out that he made a mistake at point a or point b isn't constructive criticism, its just criticism.

He loses his man a little bit too much for my liking. Hopefully, experience will help iron out that problem. But if we discuss his pros as he develops, we should weigh it up against his cons as well. It makes the discussion a little boring if we all just concede he's boss and leave it at that. And it's not as though we are criticising him directly is it?

If you want to see a bad centre half look at the Spurs v Southampton game today Lovren responsible for two goals both schoolboy errors - Stones looks world class if you look at him saints 2-0 up now 2-2 down to him!

Not trying to criticize Stones.

I think he made quite a few notable mistakes but he wasn't punished due to the effort of his teammates and a bit of luck.

oh absolutely
no point to this forum if we don't get to break down any piece of play by any player to the tiniest minutiae - my point is mostly about booing/groaning about him at games

I think groaning is just a reflex really but I'd be very surprised if anyone was booing the lad at the ground. Possibly just anxious when he goes past players because hoofing is so ingrained. Dunno though, if people do boo him that is stupid.

jagielka gets groaned at as well, for his hoofs out of play, rightly so in some cases, what annoys me is young defenders getting every error micro analysed, when the seniors also make errors its gets ignored, like when coleman came through and people constantly said hibbert wouldn't make that error, I wouldn't mind if he was being compared to cafu like, Its obvious stones is going to be class, better than any other ch at the club

That's just people trying to form an opinion on players though isn't it? He's good at this, he's not quite as good at this as the other one is, he's the 1st, 2nd or 3rd best in his position at the club.
They will only compare it with what they know. In Colemans case, Hibbo.
