John Stones

Stones is being slaughtered whereas Galloway is getting away with a far worse performance because he is flavour of the month.

The issue is with playing two ball playing CB's, the best ball playing CB's have always been paired with an out-and-out defender (Pique/Puyol etc), Stones will improve again with Jags back in the team.

Don´t think either were that bad. Stones passing was off and Galloway wasn´t tight enough on his man 3 or 4 times however I didn´t see Shakiri running riot and skinning his man over and over. He definitely doesn´t have enough going forward for us though. Will be good to see him at CB at some point.

This thread is showing the exact reason Stones probably wanted out of Everton. That some supporters will gleefully attack players of the calibre of Leighton Baines and John Stones as part of their blind adherence to the manager is shocking. Anyone thinking Stones will be here next season to play for this manager is deluded. There's only so many times one of the best centrebacks in Europe will watch himself getting run ragged on MOTD as part of a shambolic defensive structure backed up by a joke keeper.

Of course you could also posit a more balanced view yourself and not try and lay it all at the feet of the manager.

Too many posts painting everything as black and white when there are so many factors at play.

Personally feel myself that he could do with a rest. He's only young and it does seem like the mental and physical demands of the Premier League are starting to get to him. A few games out wont do him any harm at all.

The 2nd he made an attempt at a long ball and wasn´t far off picking out a very good run by, I think, kone. It was just short, and was cut out. What happened after was nowt to do with him really.

Just because a pass doesn´t reach its intended target does not in any way mean it wasn´t a good idea to try it, and it was a good run to try pick out. And it was a long ball so hardly ever will be turned around so quickly to catch you out. Stoke did it very well though.

So if you were a coach you would actually lay the blame on the player for trying a ball to get our striker in behind the defence, just because the defense cut it out and managed a quick breakaway goal? Makes no sense to me. That kind of pass should be encouraged, mix things up a little and I am sure the strikers appreciate the attempt and would like a bit more of it.

But when Ross tries it......

one day, hopefully REAL soon, I am gonna light you up like a Christmas tree. You massive cockwomble.

Leave out the personal stuff

Sorry if I'm confusing you, I'm trying to say if we had all the money in the world and we could have anyone I wouldn't have Stones playing CB. I think we need an experienced CB to steady the ship and get us some clean sheets. If we had this luxury (which we don't) I would be inclined to loan Stones out so he could gain some experience. I'm thinking about an ideal world when we are owned by a Sheik!

That's all a bit pie in the sky though. If Jagielka was fit, Stones would have an experienced centre half next to him. If we had more money, we'd have another experienced centre half as backup and Stones would still play. Where on earth couild we loan Stones too as well ? Sorry mate, but I don't think you've thought this one through.

Sheik or no Sheik....no.

Can you please concentrate on the here and now and not overthink and overplay a slightly poor run of form by an excellent, but still-learning, young footballer?

....its good also, and should be encouraged.

Bottom line is, the 2nd goal aint Stones fault.

I agree and disagree mate, sometimes our defenders need to know when their job is to defend and look to prioritise positioning, and against a front 3 of bojan, shaqiri, arnautavic, i think it was very naive of Stones, hence it was his fault.

I really rate him mate, but he needs to be more responsible.

This is bang on the money, add Lukaku to this, we are in danger of losing some of the best players we have seen at Goodison in years, or if we don't lose them we will at least wasting the talent they have, a choice between Lukaku and Stones staying for the long term or sticking with Roberto is no choice at all.

But, I highly doubt Stones or Lukaku would have developed into the players they are if not for Martinez. Kind of works both ways, mate.

What was naive about it? Very easy thing to just say, but what do you mean?

sensing the danger in behind, due to other players being slightly forward, maybe being more defensive minded in a situation like that, rather than carry on with the instinctive way of playing.

Knowing wen to go forward and when not to, his job is defender, first and above all else. The pass was not even on imo.

Id have to see it again, but I remember watching the replays and thinking it was a good run by the striker and a decent pass but just a little short....and well cut out.
