John Stones

Up until this season, Stones has been remarkably consistent for a defender, let alone such a young one. He played superbly during all the transfer hassle but think that could well have taken its toll along with playing so many games and missing the direction of Jags.

He needs a breather but, bit like Ross was last season, believe it just a dip in form rather than an issue with his overall ability.

He still has some clear weaknesses but don't think the crowd getting on his back will help in resolving them.

He was an absolute liability today, simple as that. Not that he was the only one to have a poor game.

He needs to sort his head out ASAP. A performance like that at City and we'll concede north of five.

EDIT: Hang on, there's actually people saying get rid of him? Really?

He has to be dropped for Wednesday, though we know jagielka will replace mori, who has done nothing wrong, because Martinez doesn't want to upset him/wants to let him learn

No idea who is gonna genuinely bid £50 million though. His price has gone down this season tbh.
Well Everton hold all the cards in that respect

Everton say £60 million

No offers,no move,it's not like we need the money next year do we

I don't think he should be dropped. He was poor today, no doubt about it.

But then again, not many have mentioned that absolutely sublime pass through to Coleman that he played right at the end, which Coleman should have scored from.

Get him in alongside Jags vs City.

The energy of Besic in front of him was missed today.

Exactly. Those who wanted him to clear it when he had chance v Spurs have been proven correct today.
If he had played the ball like he did at Spurs, we wouldn't have conceded a penalty.

Against Spurs, he played the ball intelligently and looked to carry it forward out of defense, forcing the attacker to foul him. Today, he just wanted to pass it backwards and ended up doing it poorly after hesitating too long.

I don't think people are actually saying "get rid of him" in that pejorative sense

The growing mood is that if someone offered in the region of £40/50 million for him we should take it.

A whole nother thang ;)

I am concerned with him being so young he could take a dropping in a negative way but I think we miss Funes Mori in the air when he isn't out there.

Why doesn't someone on the 'coaching' staff get a grip of him? He's doing the same stupid things every week.

He's a bit of a snide in how he puts his teammates into trouble by forcing unnecessary passes onto them, presumably so that his YouTube highlight reel isn't compromised by a rogue clearance. The one to Oviedo in the second half was scandalous.

Oh please, Mick....there was nowt "intelligent" about what he did versus Spurs.

It was pure showboating.....the same showboating which cost us so dearly today.
