John Stones

No, earlier than 2 and a half years ago, as we both know. Before he was made manager...and you've never given the man a chance at any point in between then and now.

Still, you're another one who'll just have to fume and bang your head against a door. We know RM is safe as houses.

COYBs for the cup eh?
When I mentioned 2 1/2 years that's what I meant. From day 1 he hadn't done enough in the league to prove he could get Everton going.

Also of course Everton for the cup.

Back on topic I do worry about the amount of stick you give John Stones. Some of it warranted, yet the way you go out of your way to never criticise Martinez, makes it seem that you're just unleashing your frustration out on the players, because you can't be seen to criticise Martinez.

Absolutely dreadful today.his worst game ever in my opinion.Showboating when he should be getting rid and when he did decide to clear the ball it always went straight back to swansea.bad bad day at the office and doesn't look half the player without jags next to him.

What are the benefits of us not selling the crybaby to Chelsea back in the summer except being 40m poorer ? This lad is not especially good in defending, does not prevent us of being worst defence in the league, make a lot of mistakes, does not score goals. He's biggest atributes are that he is young and English.

Funes Mori is miles better defender and he is not free of mistakes at all.

If we sold the crybaby in the summer and put barry at center back how worse would we end up ? Conceding 2 or 3 more odd goals ?

I think you are partly right. I don't think he is a suitable defender for the club he's at, particularly playing in front of the goalkeeper he has.

If he was at a top club, who rely on 75% he would really stand out. Very similar to Pique really. But in a side that gets pressed, isn't filled with payers as comfortable as him on the ball and doesn't give options and ultimately don't show enough he is being found out a bit.

I also think it has all gone to his head a bit. When he first broke into the team he looked more solid than now.

I don't like much on talk sport but one of the presenters made a good point. A few of them at Everton currently think they are a bit better than what they are. They need a rocket and Stones is definitely in that category.
I dont think the poor GK is all the story. He's just completely bad in the 18 yard box. Hopeless in the air, goes to ground at every opportunity, gives needless pens away. I mean, it's not even close his level of ability for the job required.

Correct. A decent GK behind Funes Mori and Jagielka and we have a platform to move off from. Stones is never in a million years a centre back.

I believe he has been encouraged to ponce about with the ball in difficult situations, and has been discouraged to do what a defender should do and just clear the ball. This is extremely bad management and a key part of our regression under Martinez. The dodgy pieces of play between Stones and Howard are similar to the ones seen between Distin and Howard last season.

Funes and jags don't 'ponce' around with the ball

Been poor an awful lot this season. Would be Unfairly harsh to drop Mori for either of them as well

I'd keep him in mate and rest him for Carlisle. His starting place at Newcastle depends on his performance on Wednesday.

Think if we drop him, the entire media hype before the game would focus on Stones being dropped, and then a mountain is suddenly made out of a molehill whether we win or not.

It becomes the John Stones match, not a massive game for Everton.

We'd be a lot worse off.

Too big a game for me, prefer a more solid pairing . Joel coming back in will help though
