John Stones

Agreed, why bother signing players u21 with enormous potential and develop them as a group suffering short term results for long term success and then WANT to sell them?

Barca had Xavi Iniesta and Messi come through together as well as Busquets etc...all through their academy with years playing together.

We are buying in these players like Stones and adding them into what the u21s produce like Barkley and will see the effects of their development together over time.

We should want to keep them ALL but of course if one does end up leaving Martinez should replace them with 2 more players u21 with similar potential levels.

Agree with the principle mate and that 'squad system' method is what Martinez is trying to build.

Like you, I just don't get why fans actively want to see us sell our better players.

Zatman thinking theres players like Stones just sitting on the shelf waiting to get bought.

No tinkerbelle, i said if players "like" Stones were to go (in a worst case scenario) we need to use the cash to go in for two players who have "similar" potential with the money...

Signed for £3mil
Sold for £60mil
2 u21 players in for £30mil each

So we lose one superstar but gain 2 potential superstars....weaker in one position but stronger over 2 positions, £30mil a pop for an u21 player gets some amazing players....

Anyway i wouldnt want to sell him to its moot.

My cats called Tinkerbell.

My point is that players like John Stones dont grow on trees, you think Chelsea offered 30m+ cos they thought his name would look good on their shirt?

I mean instead of paying "60m" why dont these buying clubs just buy 2 of these Under 21 superstars that are just lying around?

Unicorns and pixie dust Zat.

If this happened tomorrow, name the 2 u21 players that you'd buy for £30m a pop to replace Stones

True. More than likely we'd buy another 3m player and start over again. We're not attractive enough to buy 30m youngsters. More to the point, who would pay 30m for a u21 player?

We looked a lot better at the back with his omission.

Lets face it, his heads gone. No worry, keep him out of it for a few games and ensure that the boy is dealing with it ok. Been a ridiculously hard season, he's so young - I'm 22 and I break down into tears and assume the fetal position when someone asks me what I want for tea.

With Stones they see someone with the potential to be the best in the world in that position...like the Messi of centre backs. Hence the huge premium.

If we sold him then we would simply need to spend on say 2 replacements who perhaps wont have as much future potential as Stones or may well do, its a risk for us if they fulfill promise or fit into the club etc...but for the money we should do ok with Martinez making the picks. We get in a centre back replacement and a forward or whatever Martinez feels we need...could be we need two CBs soon as jags is no spring chicken...

In any case i wouldnt sell Stones.
