Honestly: would he be so highly regarded if he wasn't English? I honestly think if Stones was from Belarus then he wouldn't be so highly regarded... English media to blame? food for thought.

He's a superb talent who went through a tricky patch of form post-Christmas and then got an injury.

Bar the first 5 minutes or so of the second half vs Arsenal, he looked back to his normal self when he came on.

Well, he's really good at football so i'd have to say yes.

I hope so. But I think its about time our superb talents start playing superbly.. Ross included

John Stones is ready to lead Everton's revival, insists Toffees boss Roberto Martinez

Backed: John Stones is ready to lead his team's revival, according to his manager
Roberto Martinez believes John Stones is ready to lead an Everton revival.

The £40million-rated defender has been banished into the Goodison wilderness in recent weeks, starting only one game since January, and that at right-back and not his preferred central defence position.

Yet as he joins up with the England squad this week, where he is likely to be a starter for Roy Hodgson’s side, his manager offered encouragement that he could finally be restored to the Blues starting XI.

Stones was one of the few bright spots with an impressive second half appearance in an otherwise disappointing defeat by Arsenal, and Martinez said: “I thought when he came out he looked refreshed, he looked full of energy, like the player he looked like at the start of the season.

Contrast: Stones is starter for England - but not Everton

“I think he has come back with a real focus and a real intent of performing well and I think the second half performance, the back three had to do everything, defend, get on the ball and try to play forward and I thought it was an all-action performance.

“He reacted well and anticipated things very well. He played really well, and he’s refreshed.”

Martinez knows he needs to shake his side up after their eighth home Premier League defeat of the season – with only Troyes of France having a worse home record across the whole of Europe’s major leagues.

His team look likely to post a depressing record of Goodison defeats, with the previous worst of nine in 1993/94 just one more loss away.

Boss: Roberto Martinez is confident Stones will return to his best

And it gets worst, after winning just four times at home all season, they need to win all three of their remaining Premier League matches at Goodison, to avoid posting the worst points total at home in the club’s history.

The worst-ever was in 1957/58, when under the current three points for a win method, they got 24 on their own ground. They currently have 16.

No wonder Martinez insists that his side must sort themselves out, or risk their Everton futures. “Our competition for places is as good as its ever been, which makes the Arsenal defeat so hurtful,” he said.

“Unless you can show you are a player to drive Everton forward, it will be difficult to see how you can stay in the side.”

If we can get £40m-45 for him in the summer i'd take it.
He's a good defender with massive potential but for that sort of money then I wouldn't see it as an option to keep him. He was absolutely phenomenal against Chelsea at home earlier this season but it almost seems like it was a "look at what I can do Chels" make sure you come back for me" performance.
I do think very able central defenders for our level are plenty easy enough to buy, Stones isn't irreplaceable. Sell.

If Manchester City and Guardiola really want him I would hold out for £100 million I cannot believe people are happy for him to leave. We were right to block a £30-40m move. He is 21 and unique.

Hope we can keep him.

Not saying he will be sold for 100 million but I think people will be surprised, if the reports are true about Guardiola really wanting him, I think we are likely to get a very surprisingly high fee.

Nearly give me a heart attack with the back pass within the first few minutes, looked more comfortable though, albeit not really tested

Another day, another bullshit story from the bullshit seller.

Fully agree, why play 4 at the back every single game, then bring stones back into a back 5, that is not a player who you are building a future around, that is a player you are shoe-horning into a team just to give him some game time. If you fully believe in him 100%, play your usual back 4 and play him. At the moment I can't see how he can start him over Mori and Jags, but I wouldn't suddenly go to a back 5 right now.
