John Stones

Not sure there are any doubters in Stones. The argument is always whether the manager has developed him or ruined him. Personally, I think Martinez has treated him the right way. You have to let a naturally talented footballer express himself, rather than have so called technical ability trained into him. Stones is the most naturally talented defender of his generation, and quite possibly of many generations. He'd be much better off if everyone just let him get on with his game (including the mistakes) and ditto Martinez. Amazing how many forum dwellers are more equipped and qualified to 'manage' a player than a professional manager.

Hes a shining example of why we cant have nice things.

Hes a very talented young lad, learning his trade in the hardest league in the world, not a single piece of leeway is given to the lad, simply cos he likes to play football his own way. He lost his place due to a slight injury and hes having to wait for a chance to get back, he needs games at his age and he needs to make mistakes in order to learn, its how EVERYBODY learns and gets better.

He needs to be taught the art of defending first. Something which he seems to have lost since becoming a regular. Know when to pass it out and when to out it in row z

There's a long queue of adeptly qualified 'coaches' on here able to offer him the benefit of their wisdom

Let everyone have their say about stonsey , if they want to see cahill and smalling pass the ball back 30 times in a game when pressed, great England won't get passed the second round. ( EDIT England keeper breaks ankle after having to launch the ball 30 times after cahill back passes). I personally think john will start against man utd and will finish the season strongly.

He's in the situation Ross was a season or two back. Let's hope he can come through it like Ross has and that the fans get off his back. Hopefully our away fans (in many ways our best fans?) can carry on singing his song, helping give him confidence, show him some love and he might well want to stay playing for us.

I think another manager who can better advise him defensively would help too (let's face it, all our defenders are looking a bit suspect under Roberto)

Difference with Barkley was that there was no doubt about his ability to play the position/role he was given, it was more his mentality and commitment.

With Stones, his very position as a CB has now come under scrutiny.
