John Stones

Stones is just a young lad learning and yet this over reaction to his mistakes is shocking. Disgrace to be honest
Agreed totally

I suspect his willingness to entertain a move has tainted people's view of him and I think that's probably fair,we dislike disloyalty

This said he would take some replacing no matter how much we got for him so let's keep him and let him develop into the player experts think he's going to be

He's in the situation Ross was a season or two back. Let's hope he can come through it like Ross has and that the fans get off his back. Hopefully our away fans (in many ways our best fans?) can carry on singing his song, helping give him confidence, show him some love and he might well want to stay playing for us.

I think another manager who can better advise him defensively would help too (let's face it, all our defenders are looking a bit suspect under Roberto)

The bit about Martinez not being arsed about defending and how it'd rubbed off on Stones was brought up several times today on Talksport today and also the fact it'd probably cost Stones a place at the Euros.

Shame this person cannot write in a manner that I can understand. What does 'culture.' mean?

Probably just saying it's in English football culture to build young players up and then destroy them when they have a bad run of form rather than supporting them and letting them develop.

what a load of balls. Who will go ahead of him then? Cahill and Jones. They make just as many mistakes if not more but because they don't do it trying to play football they get away with it.

....I genuinely think Stones is suffering the consequences of what went on with Chelsea in the summer. His form was ok at the start of the season but the goings on caught up with him and his form and attitude slipped. I'm not sure how it will all work out but I am sure that whenever and wherever he becomes settled he will be an absolute star.

They do 'play football'. They play the appropriate type of football for their position. Stones is all too often playing an inappropriate style (ie the fannying around) and thus his errors become even more noticeable.

This on toast

If those 2 go ahead of him to the euros what little's left of my faith in English football will be destroyed forever and I don't think I'l ever recover.

Put him further up the pitch or sell him. He's a talented player but completely out of his depth playing CB.

I respect the likes of Hoddle, he's a thinker. And Martinez too. But their views on Stones are so out of whack with reality it's untrue. The lad cant even stay on his feet; he turns his back on shots in the box; cant physically hold off an attacker; is positionally poor.

What he has got is an ability to pick a forward pass and he has pace. Looks all the world like a box to box midfielder to me.

He'd be perfect in the Barry position.

However, i think he and Mori in defence with also full backs who can defend on either side would be far better.

We currently have Coleman and Baines who arent the best defensively and are attempting to move to a system which needs wingers but have full backs left from moyes era...who dont fit the system.

I think Lukaku and Barkley went through playing with us a different way than was natural to them and both suffered.

This has been Stones this season and he will emerge from it a far better player...
