This sums it up perfectly. All the positives about Stones have been what he did from an attacking perspective. Everything negative relates to his defensive play. In fact, I haven't heard anyone praise or indeed remark upon anything he did defensively.Pity about the slip, he was having a very good game he played a great pass to set up the goal and an even better one in the second half that could of been a goal.
Don't usually watch England friendlies but caught 1st half.I'm sure really early on stones held onto the ball in a vulnerable position, almost got caught out and you could hear a big moan from the crowd. So it's not just Everton fans that moan when a player puts his side under needless pressure.
The coaching could have been better.
The fans could have been better.
Since Christmas, Stones himself could have been better.
At the end of the day this is a 21-year-old who has been through a rough patch of form where our own fans wanted him dropped.
Then he got injured and suddenly it's 'Why isn't Martinez playing Stones laaaaaaa', when he was simply being eased back while Funes-Mori and Jags were playing well.
I expect him to start most (if not all) of the games coming up for the rest of the season.
sell.

Kopite?????sell.
Quite. The problem us that his team mates may become reluctant to pass to him for fear of him screwing himself into trouble, and this inviting pressure upon themselves. It's a stupid, selfish style of play that will win him no fans, and someone really needs to coach it out of him. And by that, I don't mean prevent him from ever doing it, just knowing when to use the most appropriate option.I've noticed that his mistakes tend to come when he's facing his own keeper, and tries to turn out of trouble. Facing forward he's been fine. Someone needs to tell him, at least for know, just to go back to the keeper if he's facing him, and then he can at least collect the return (if it's on) on the half turn and face the play. If he keeps making mistakes it'll affect him, but he can reduce the chance of making them, without having to lose the part of his game that makes him a special player.
It's down to him really though. If he keeps trying to beat forwards on the turn he will screw up again and it'll spiral. Keep it simple when needs be and regain the confidence needed to go back to making everyone else look a bit silly
Kopite?????
Not sure there are any doubters in Stones. The argument is always whether the manager has developed him or ruined him. Personally, I think Martinez has treated him the right way. You have to let a naturally talented footballer express himself, rather than have so called technical ability trained into him. Stones is the most naturally talented defender of his generation, and quite possibly of many generations. He'd be much better off if everyone just let him get on with his game (including the mistakes) and ditto Martinez. Amazing how many forum dwellers are more equipped and qualified to 'manage' a player than a professional manager. Will become the finest CB of his generation, oh I will laugh at his doubters.
