John Stones

I know it doesn't excuse his lead feet for the opening goal, but Stones was excellent for the first segment of the game on Wednesday.
He reads the game so well, in terms of when to block etc.
For me, he just began then to show his age and inconsistency for some of their goals.

What a talent though

Marquinhos
Varane
Laporte

To answer your question.Gimenez and Tah are the only two highly rated young centre backs who defend rather than look to pass the ball out...if that makes sense.

Stones needa an organizational leader next to him.

You wouldn't describe Marquinhos and Varane as ''the odds not being in their favour'' seeing as their clubs frequently dominate matches they play in. It's a totally different kind of pressure when your fans are annoyed you haven't won by seven goals and have had to settle for just the five week in week out. As for Stones he needs more than just a leader next to him, he needs to be coached properly.

Stones is a difficult one, he has all the ability in the world, but as a club our defensive contribution has gone massively backwards.

Personally i think that without having much focus on defence (Martinez own words), we can't expect someone to get better without sharpening their tools in training.

Spot on, defenders can't improve if they aren't working on defensive stuff to get better at.

BUT saying that CD, no excuse to be out jumped like he was on Wednesday, no excuse making a blind pass like he did on Wednesday, simply awful defending from a player who has been indulged by Martinez in the art of not taking responsibility.

He's been an utter joke this season, one player in a long line of players whose performances aren't acceptable so doesn't deserve to be cut any slack. A new manager would have kicked him into orbit for the "calm down" gesture at Goodison.

Completely agree, it wasn't like origin was running onto the ball and bulling him out the way - he was extremely poor on Wednesday. The only defence i can say about that was, it was roughly on 6 yard box and Robles has to come and get that, but hahaha the team have been playing with Howard who doesnt come so they should have been prepared.

Wednesday was the straw that broke the back, he hasn't had a good season and who knows why, it could be down to not wanting to be here or anything.

I do think there is a massive coaching void there, we have all said that anyways. The players need to take some responsibility, they gave up well before the Arsenal game which was just as frightening in my eyes.

Stones will be quality. He has been near perfect for two years and at his first blip of form and people turn on him.

He is still a kid learning his craft. Currently, playing in a team that can't defend for toffee. It's not the individual, it's the system.

People slagged off Distin last season, but on reflection was he right about questioning the methods at the club? People questioned his professionalism, a man who is the oldest outfield player in the premiership and the physique of a god with a penis made in the depths of hell to punish naughty people.

Who exactly is he learning his craft from? Do we even coach defenders? No wonder he wants away. RM is actually costing us money now as his stock has dropped.

I like Funes can't believe the fuss over the mis-timed tackle and the badge kissing, he never gives less than 100%, not many are doing that at the moment.

Probably because he was stupid enough to leave us with no fit centre backs in the biggest game in years for us this weekend.

Hes an idiot. Such an unprofessional thing to do.

Spot on mate I was really disappointed with Joel not coming from that,he even take a step forward to think about doing it. But in his defence he sees a 6ft 2"centre back goal side, Oviedo covering so he probably thinks they have got it when in reality he should be thinking "we are crap at the back so I'm taking no chances". That was the only mistake he made on Wednesday so I'm willing to cut Joel some Slack.

Everything else you mention you are correct imo. I don't think Stones wants to be here, I don't think he's getting the kind of coaching that is beneficial to his career and he certainly won't be indulged by the vast majority of Everton fans who will tell him like it is when not playing well.

I think he's gone tbh mate and being brutally honest I'm not arsed. Moments of class, potential to be top drawer but as soon as someone hands in a transfer request they can sod off for all I care. He's done nothing of note the past year for me to be remotely arsed if he stays or goes.

First things first though, get rid of the manager and then pick apart this overhyped squad of tits one by one and start again because that's what any new manager is going to have to do. Martinez will have left us in a far worse state than Moyes did for him.

Yeah i think first thing on my agenda if i was Moshiri or that dude on the board for him. Remove Martinez and tell stones and lukaku to see who we get in and speak to them before doing anything.

The right coaching and management he would be world class, similar to a couple of our players - right now they are completely devoid of anything coming from Martinez and are regressing due to him.

I think he will go, but i would hope that if we have any sort of ambition we get a top class manager who tells them this is where its at. I imagine De Boer bringing Stam with him as part of his backroom team (de boer not my obvious first choice but it fits for this), and think of the player it could make stones.

Aye mate and I think we are all pretty sure everything will be coming to an end in approx 48 hours barring a miracle and the players actually remembering that they play for Everton Football Club and not for Boberto Utd.

He's a very good footballer and a class act being ruined by a compete turd of a manager who has no emphasis on defending.

If he has anything about him he should be looking to get out of the stench of Everton FC as soon as he can, unless an exciting appointment is made and it is somebody he is willing to work with and develop under.

Everton and Martinez are ruining him at present, same with Barkley.

Every player is capable of moments of brilliance. Christ, even Sakho made some world class tackles the other night. It's what you do aside from these great moments, the bread-and-butter stuff, that is just as important. And as far as I'm concerned, Stones does not cut it. Nowhere near enough. He gets flagged up in almost every single game as being responsible for something, be it failing to defend a cross, being out of position, dangerous passes in dangerous areas, or reckless last ditch tackles.

I just don't rate him at all.
