John Stones

IMO we need to stop putting young centre-backs anywhere near the first team, you can't train experience, a decent CB usually hits peak when a similar aged striker is "finished".

I really hope whoever we replace him with is just a straight foward CB who can read crosses and head it tbh, leave the ball playing to the midfield.

So much of the defence is down to the manager I think. Simeone is making Savic, a complete failure at City look brilliant. Martinez made nearly all our defenders look poor. We need a settled first choice partnership. The new manager needs to decide if that is Jags plus another or Funes Mori plus another, or whether those two are a good enough pairing and we're just looking for a replacement if Stones goes.

Absolutely, give him a chance under a manager that practices defensive set plays, and not just tells him to "be Beckenbauer" which is what it seems Martinez did.

Using his ability at the right time is a skill he hasnt learned, a good coach will make him trully world class. I was all set for selling him until the FA Cup semi final, his runs from deep in the second half were world class, if we can harness that we will have one of the best players in the league.

I think John Stones deserves to be complimented on his attitude this season.
I know it hasn't been the best for him on the pitch but he is young and still learning. Young players can be inconsistent
and after all the hype in the previous season and the furore during the summer with Chelsea it can't have been easy for him.

But, he has never opened his mouth, kept playing, was dropped and still said nothing.
Again, he has not spoken to the press about his desire to leave and I firmly believe that he is going and to Utd if Mourinho goes there.

The only indicator really about his desire to leave is the lack of a new contract and the apparent absence of talks about a new contract.

Having watched Smalling get roasted yesterday by Crystal Palace I think Mourinho will be offering £50 mill for him after the Euros. I still believe Stones is the litmus test for Everton, sell him and the message goes out that we are only paying lip service to challenging for top honours. Keep him and build then we have a chance. I don't think selling Lukaku's has the same impact, he just seems to want instant success and doesn't seem to want to help build something. I sincerely hope that a new ambitious manager can keep them both plus Barkley and add to the first team.
I think we will have a battle to keep him but I think we need to.

I think Utd will go all out for Stones in the summer. £50m would be hard to turn down, and if we lose both Lukaku and Stones then i'd be worried about how we spend the £110m.

Depending on who the manager is i'm sure the money will be spent wisely.

Losing both of Stones and Lukaku does open up the possibility/need for 2 big signings to replace them, but I can't see us spending anywhere near £110m to replace them (If that was the final figure). I imagine our transfers might continue with the general ethic we've been used to for some years, bar one or two bigger signings.

Thought he was decent for large parts of it, better than Cahill and Rose at any rate.
Man of the match Rose? He had a good game. Stones was average, but wouldn't say poor. High point was his striding break out of defence - but that should come as a surprise to no-one.
