I agree entirely. However I dont like the phrase "rightful place as number 1".... It's the kind if thing the other lot say. I'm uncomfortable with it. It's a sport and, in a season, we hope that were good enough to be the best.

Nobody is rightfully number 1. Earn it.

Of course and sport is boring if the same team keeps winning. But I want to see a return full circle to the Everton i first saw as a child. 84 is my first memory, so I only knew dominance back then. We have waited long enough now. I want it back :)

Anyway, what's the story with this this morning?

That City are to make a bid? Not a surprise, really.

In fairness, if he does go to City, we'll get good money and he'll be playing under the best manager in the world, alongside one of the best defenders in the game in Kompany.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't begrudge him that.

However, that being said, I also believe it is key we do our utmost to keep him. Get him sat down with RK at the earliest possible opportunity and get a new deal on the table. If he rejects it, then fine, we sell and move on. Will be a big blow though. One of the most talented around.

I think he would be better in a back three.

back three doesn't work in the Prem for more than a few games.

RK got it working at So'ton but quickly reverted back when teams started sussing the system out.

Stones is more than capable as a defender. The idea that he isn't good enough is laughable.

Like many youngsters, he's a confidence player. And when he's on form there's not many better in this league - and to say he's only 22 that's saying a lot

Don't think Kompany is apart of the plans next season. For what i'm gathering City want Stones and Laporte. Kompany is done. You can't get a run of games out of him without him getting injured.

Kompany will be part of the plans.

Pep won't go into his first Prem season in which he is aiming for the title and also the CL as well, with two 22-year-old centre backs as his primary pairing, and Otamendi the only 'experienced' head. No chance.

If Kompany struggles to keep fit, Pep will find a way of playing that minimises the risk of Kompany getting injured (e.g. buy a ball-playing centre half that means Kompany has to do less leg-work compared to what he's had to do in the last few years). That's how he works.

I'd love him to want to stay - and get good at defending crosses and corners - because he is clearly very confident on the ball and is great at moving the ball forward from the back.

I do think he'll have a sit down with RK and after that discussion will be confident he could stay here and develop - which wasn't the case under RM who couldn't organise a defence (which is why they were all so bad at defending crosses and the like). However, if Pep does indeed come in for him, you couldn't blame the lad for wanting to go. Best manager in world football we're talking about here, and City obviously mean business this year

Stones wont reach is peak for anogher 4-5 yrs yet. Rio Ferdinand was making mistakes at his age but had better players around him, which he learned from. And look how good he became when he was 26/27. Cant believe anybody wants him gone.

Just a reaction to Everton being diabolical at the back last year. Will be very interesting to see him play in the Euros if selected.

Damn right ..... time to earn our turn. For too long football has been a very uneven playing field - and it still is - but at least for us, it looks as though it has been levelled off a bit now. Like you say - it has been too long.

Everyone loves a ball playing defender - it's good to watch. But I'd rather just win games. I remember the early 80s when Mark Higgins and Billy Wright were our great hopes at the back. I think it's fair to say there was a lot of hope around these two initially, as they were both decent footballers, but they were replaced with solid defenders the Rat and Mountfield.

For me his agent is just doing his job here. He knows John is in demand, and knows we have money to burn right now. It's a perfect time to get him a nice fat new contract. Barca a don't buy potential, they buy the top end finished atical so don't believe the Barca link.

We hold all the cards here because of the length of his contract left and the fact we don't need the money. Hopefully once the euros are over an he sits down and sees what Moshiri has planned for us, we might see him.for a few years to come.
