John Stones

Every transfer window is going to be the one were we sell John Stones. He is big news and sells papers. I hope we hang on to him, I hope we can get good enough so that he can fulfil his potential with us. But failing that I hope we don't let him go to another Premier League club. He looks a perfect fit for Barcelona to me, stylist ball playing centre half. He would stroll through games in Spain.

my memory isn't great but i'm pretty sure the 10 season's previous don't match those that you listed.

Mine isn't great either but I'm pretty sure the ten seasons previous to those were extremely successful and we certainly didn't sell to buy then, did we? :coffee:

Different situation too with the TV deal and the starting point of the squad.

Martinez took over a team that has spent the last decade in the top 8 and was able to spend £28m on a striker.

Moyes took over a squad with 1 top half finish in the past decade and a transfer budget of a championship club.
The 28 mill for Rom was basically the fellini money

Just hope he doesnt go to a team in this league when he goes, certainly not chelsea
It all depends on personal characteristics I guess where that happens or not, as long as the 'big' clubs are actually interested in the near future.

Lots of English players are reluctant to go abroad: there's the big wages here; they do not have to learn a new language; close to family.

It can be a lonely situation by all accounts if you haven't got the tenacity to go through the often difficult and challenging changes of abroad.

Look at Bale; a great first season, but since then have been periods where their fan base and press have been utterly ruthless towards him.

Staying close to home could be the easy option. However, if he has got the mental fortitude to go abroad then I think he'd absolutely flourish.

McManaman did it as have Beckham and Owen. I hope he's up for the challenge, as if not he will go to Manure, Chelsea or Citeh.

yeah, i also think martinez is a bit more stubborn in the selling department. Moyes carried the mantra "i wouldn't stand in the way of a player making a good move for their career" whereas martinez is more "i want the best team and you're under contract."

I think we'll lose Stones in the summer, but in our terms and for massive money. We'll sell early in the window and reinforce.

I don't want to lose him but it is what it is now. The key is not making the club look small by being bullied when the transfer window is about to close.

Cant really argue with Neville much there. He says he's at RM/Barca/Bayern level.

Obviously would love for him to be here as long as possible, but would soften the pain a lot if he went to one of those clubs. I think most blues would say the same too. Would almost feel a slight twinge of pride.

It's probably the fact that I haven't been a Blue as long as the rest of you, but I don't understand the idea of being accepting of Stones going, even if it's Barça (though I agree outside of the Prem is the lesser of two evils). Whatever money we get from the sale, we're not bringing in another player of his quality.

If Stones wants to leave, there's not much we can do about that. But he's a smart kid - he must see the insane talent we have assembled. It just underlines how important these next ~10 fixtures are... could be the most important league run in quite some time, wouldn't you say? Beat who we should, rise to the occasion to win the tougher fixtures like Leicester City, and get into a top 4 slot to establish ourselves as a true CL contender.

We don't do that, well... pressure will be on.

John Stones is a young lad , who I presume is ambitious....with players like him , the club should be striving to match his ambitions and push on.

The only way he might stay and that's a big might, is if any of these takeover rumours are true and who ever comes in shows a huge amount of investment and ambition which the young stars buy into.

If we can't bring them trophies here, they'll want them somewhere else
