John Stones

Well the bidding starts at 40m, that's clear.

If he has a good season, we can look towards 45m/50m.

If he goes for that and it's all reinvested wisely, it'll be a brilliant transfer for all involved.

Leicester City are top of the league and have Robert Huth at CB.

I love watching Stones, I really do. He is sexual chocolate with the ball most the time... BUT £50 million can really make us better.

Would we be THAT much worse with Jags & Mori as our pairing ????

Stones going to Chelsea seemed to be very much a whim of Jose and doesn't seem likely they'll bid again to me. Even more unlikely he would want to go there. All the other English clubs seem unlikely to spend that kind of cash on a developing centre half at the moment. And centre halves don't tend to be where the major European clubs generally spend their cash.
He's potentially world class but still a gamble for anyone. And a move is a huge gamble for him when his career is doing fine and he knows he will stay in the public eye.
Might all be rose tinted but us optimists deserve some cred after last summer.

This is like the Lukaku discussion again. Stones will be st the very top of most European clubs transfer lists this summer. Regardless of price, this type of player is a once in a generation. He has no weakness to his game and is already probably the best centreback in the premier league. Top clubs will break the bank for him, but I predict it will be Barcelona coming in for him.

As much as we'd love to believe every team in Europe is willing to break the bank for our players I just don't see any evidence.
Stones at the moment is not even an automatic starter for England, and I'm not sure but I think the same is true of Rom for Belgium. There are weaknesses to both their games that are greatly outweighed by what they bring to us, but these clubs can fork out for tried and trusted players at the very top level and don't have to take risks.

Would 50 mill make us better? Not seen much evidence of teams spending wisely after losing a star player in recent years.
Who would we attract even with a transfer kitty who is significantly better than what we have? Remember we have to commit ourselves to wages that means that 50 mill could become dwarfed if we have half a dozen mercenaries on long term contracts.
If 50 mill would really improve us then why not build potential sales into projections and invest in the squad while Stones is still with us.

If John Stones has no say in the matter, then fine, lets keep him. But you and I know football does not work like that, and we will lose him at some point.

Defensively, as a unit he does not make us any stronger than Jags & Mori/Distin. Individually he is magic, but the unit/team is the priority.

End of the day, Everton's ability to perform at the cutting edge this season will largely dictate the future club commitments of players like Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu. Despite my many facetious comments of late to the contrary, I am exceedingly disappointed in Everton's heretofore failure to articulate such performance. In short, this team is failing to deliver, vis-a-vis its talent, with results on the pitch. If such is not reversed quickly, a once in a generation golden, golden, opportunity will escape us....Everton that.

It turned into a circus though and didn't get him anywhere so I can't see him doing it next summer.
If that's not his aim he'll have to sign a new contract then, because in relative terms of assume he's being vastly underpaid. One reason for him not signing one (outside of we simply may not have offered him one) is he'll look a tit if he signs one between now and the end of the season and the asks to leave.

I think he'll leave, but I just don't think he'll hand in a transfer request.
