John Stones

If John Stones has no say in the matter, then fine, lets keep him. But you and I know football does not work like that, and we will lose him at some point.

Defensively, as a unit he does not make us any stronger than Jags & Mori/Distin. Individually he is magic, but the unit/team is the priority.
I think Stones and maybe Mori in a few years time will be invaluable to the team if the rest of the squad continue to learn how to work off the ball so a footballing centre half can find them.
And decent players will want to come here.
Stones will have a say but as has been proven the determination of the club will matter. Good players have and will stay much longer than expected when richer clubs have come in for them. We don't have to accept anything as inevitable.

End of the day, Everton's ability to perform at the cutting edge this season will largely dictate the future club commitments of players like Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu. Despite my many facetious comments of late to the contrary, I am exceedingly disappointed in Everton's heretofore failure to articulate such performance. In short, this team is failing to deliver, vis-a-vis its talent, with results on the pitch. If such is not reversed quickly, a once in a generation golden, golden, opportunity will escape us....Everton that.

Couldn't have put this any better. Well said D. This season will in all probability he our last chance of success with some of these players. I'd be confident of us keeping Barkley and Del but I really do feel that Lukaku Stones possibly Coleman will be off without tangible success. Throw in Mirallas, hopefully Howard, and the retirement of players like Hibbert Osman and Pienaar then it's clear to see we will be in for a transitional summer the type we've not had since Martinez was appointed.

having genuine talent like stones and lukaku is essential for us. I can see both leaving this summer unfortunately. Not irreplaceable but if we are going to compete we need to keep these lovelies and build upon it.

That's all well and good, Im not happy about keeping a player that wants to leave.

...all roads lead to Rome...

So basically no point in contracts. Big difference between a player feeling he could do well elsewhere but knowing he gains nothing by not continuing to work for the team, and a player refusing to play if he's not transfered.

We just make sure we comoe out of it as strong as possible, with or without Stones.

He is not the be-all and end-all.

Agreed but part of that would surely be making the player feel invaluable and giving the impression to other clubs that talent on the pitch is worth more than money in the bank

Its not though.

The player will want to play at the top level, im not sure we can offer that, and you have to be realistic.

Even if we finish top 4, we wont be challenging for the CL, and if Stones is as good as you and me think....he should be at a club winning it.
