Anderson played very well for them, and I haven't watched the game back but I can think of an example where Kenny ran back and took the ball off him near the end.

Some are making out like he didn't do anything right. I disagree personally. Did well going forward too.
He did do well going forward with some very good crosses but his first job is to defend which was awful. I like Kenny and is a good back up but can’t believe some people thought he did well yesterday. God help us if he did decent in that game going forward this season.

He definitely had a couple of very shaky moments yesterday, not the least of which when near the end Anderson (?) was one and one with him and he looked down right terrified. He wasn't the only one to have a poor game. Last season I thought he looked very shaky at first and then really grew into the responsibility after a run of games. Hopefully he can have a better game next time out, hate this tendency to bin off our young players after one poor game.

Tony Hibbert was a very good defender though. History has been re-written on here though to suggest otherwise.

Hibbert's limitations came when he had the ball at his feet and offered us very little going forward.

...being limited with a ball at your feet is quite a considerable limitation where a professional footballer is concerned.

Didn't argue otherwise.

But to ridicule Hibbert's defending doesn't give an accurate representation of the player he was. He lasted for 10+ years in the Premier League for a team that was often around 5th - 8th, and even as a 5 foot 7 full back, he was able to fill in at centre half on rare occasions and didn't let us down then either.

That's true in most cases Eggs, but there always have been a few who were very good at one aspect of the game,in Hibberts case it was defending(when in his prime), but useless at other parts of the game. Hibbert did what he was supposed to do,but you got nothing extra. The same could be said of quite a few players over the years.

I'd rather Kenny any day of the week. Hibbert was awful.

I’m so confused. West Ham hardly put a cross in all game, and three goals had nothing to do with Kenny. Yet his defending was poor. Can’t imagine what people thought of Holgate’s defending.

Where have i criticised Hibberts defending; I said he was a better defender than Kenny. Hibbert was a very limited footballer but ok on some defensive duties, he was an average to low quality premier league footballer.

The point being made is that Kenny doesn’t even posses that defensive side of his game that Hibbert had yet people want him as an option. There’s far to much wanting these youngsters to play rather than looking at the needs of the club

Jesus wept

I don't think you are in the minority, I thought he was just behind Digne for MOM, I am like you, a bit biased where Jonjo is concerned, and I thought he did well in all departments of his game and if there had been more movement by the strikers, in the box, we would have scored a couple more from Kenny's crosses, he did well playing in a very uncertain defence.
