I imagine Kenny will be LB cover for Mykolenko and Nkounkou will be sold for a few bob to help with our FFP troubles.

…a 2nd rate RB doesn’t provide LB cover.

The club is bereft of left footed players, we need balance. I genuinely think Townsend is a better option if he recovers from his injury in time. We do have a talented LB coming through that @blueloon can confirm/deny. I’d already have him ahead of Kenny from a LB perspective.

Yes I know, but it's as a back up. Coleman can cope as a back up. And if we got to the point of using Holgate, we are very unfortunate to have 2 RBs injured at the same time. But we don't need 3 right backs in the squad, so if that happened, you look at other options, aka Holgate, or even iwobi who has been playing rwb.
Just the way i see it i don't think coleman has the legs for it anymore and kenny is a better option. In an ideal world we'd have a world class right back with Patterson pushing him

Tbf, his new deal will probably come in around £20k p/w & he offers cover at both left back & right back should injuries arise. Think it's a no brainer tbh. He'll likely get very little play time if we somehow manage to avoid injuries - with a transfer cap & more vital area to focus on, don't mind it personally...
You do realise so called ‘back up / squad ‘ players need to actually be good enough to start in the event of long term injuries right ?

Kenny is utter gash and dosent get in most teams in this league.

This deal, if true mind, is the scary reality of our financial situation and it’s very worrying.

I suspect the reasoning behind offering him a new contract is that we'll have limited funds this summer and as a priority they'll focus elsewhere - CB et al.

With Patterson and Mykolenko as recent purchases, Lampard will use him as cover alongside Coleman. In a year or two, they'll try to move him on.
Penno, Garbutt, McAleny etc just sit and run down of the contract cos no one else will be silly enough to offer the same wages as here.

And it’s just not as simple as that is it. We’ve been “trying to move on” players that are on long contracts and wages that dwarf anything they’d get elsewhere for the past 6 years. He will be here for the duration of his contract because there isn’t another club out there who would touch him on Premier League wages. His level is genuinely League 1.

No brainer indeed. Brainless, even.
