Jonjoe Kenny

Same ol Everton. I hate this but am pretty relaxed about it because it’s what I expected to happen. Nobody loves locals like this club.

Worrying part for me is that Frank seemed to like him more than Patterson. Hopefully just a case of him needing to get settled in. Otherwise we’ll be seeing a steady stream of Coleman and Kenny and obviously not progressing (or winning much).

I would say it’s a reality of our financial situation and that we have to reduce the number of new players required, but with the wages he’ll be on the outlay will still be higher than buying another young RB I’d reckon. Nothing in this club’s recent history makes me think we haven’t offered him too much money.

Least of our worries in all fairness. Midfield bodies are needed urgently. This is where we're overrun every week and the defence takes the flack. No, Kenny's not good enough for a shirt but it is what it is. Midfield, midfield, midfield.

…I think that’s a fair post.

The concern is that the new regime has made this decision.

Regardless, I think you’re right.

For me the Burnley game encapsualted exactly what Jonjoe Kenny is..... if Lampard and Thelwell can watch him and decide he offers something for a Premier League football club then perhaps their positions need to be reconsidered.

Why does everyone always pick out the Burnley game? If we judged Gomes, Allen, Keane, Mina etc etc on their worst game they'd all be playing in league 2.

Perfect opportunity to get rid of the very definition of dead wood by letting his contract run out and use his wages to replace him with a PL capable player and what do we do, offer the definition of dead wood a new 3 year contract. We have learnt absolutely nothing, just rinse and repeat year after year. Has Kenwright written all over it this kind of total unprofessional jobs for the lads bollox.

The lad isn't good enough at PL level no matter how hard he works and for the club to move forward the klingons have to be removed from the boxer shorts.

Have enough bad players in your squad and eventually, and quite regularly as we’ve found, they all play.

There’s no back ups, just a squad and you either have a good squad full of competition or a poor one, a collection of ‘backups’.

That’s what we have, one of the poorest squads in the league. Years and years of this kind of thinking.

Our squad has so many bigger problems than Kenny. He won't be on big wages and gives 100% every game. Obviously he's not good enough as a starter but he's versatile, a local lad and committed.

There are 5-10 players on bigger wages who I'd get rid of before him and who also don't give 100% every game.

….I think it epitomised his weaknesses. In a critical game it underlined everything that has been highlighted. Weak defensively, weak in the top third and weak in possession. Major factors in that defeat.

Skinned by their left back and totally out of the game with no powers of recovery in the lead up to a goal. Pushing for a winner, the ball breaks to him on the edge of the box, he lacks quality to control & shoot, he lacks quality to keep possession, he loses the ball, we are exposed, Burnley break and score.

it wasn’t a one-off, it confirmed the views of many posters. Burnley is quite rightly mentioned.

…a 2nd rate RB doesn’t provide LB cover.

The club is bereft of left footed players, we need balance. I genuinely think Townsend is a better option if he recovers from his injury in time. We do have a talented LB coming through that @blueloon can confirm/deny. I’d already have him ahead of Kenny from a LB perspective.
Indeed we do have a talented left footed CB/ FB coming through mate. The two problems are that he’s only 15, 16 in a few days , so a few seasons away from being ready and those closer to the club than I am are unsure if he’s actually going to sign a Scholarship form and join us in July . If Ishe Samuels-Smith does sign , he’s ironically the best young defender we’ve had come through our Academy since Kenny, better than Small at the same age in my view.

People forget about Branthwaite . His ex manager once said he was right footed but you can see in every aspect of his play that he uses his left foot virtually all the time , short passes and long passes out from the back. I’d certainly play him at left back ahead of Kenny.
