Not everything we do improves us. Sometimes we are trying to derisk a situation. At this point we are looking like we will let quite a lot of players go And may lose others we don’t want to. Tying down JJK de risks us from not refilling the squad and the cost of us doing that is low. If we are able to improve the squad and don’t have injuries to the point that JJK doesn’t play then all is well.

i think someone posted earlier that there can’t be an academy player deemed ready and therefore this move. I just see it as an cheap insurance policy
This really.

Also, if Kenny doesn’t get much game time, he will probably need to move on next summer regardless.

thought I read earlier in this thread, a deal had to be offered in order to 'recoup' any of the value from a player leaving when their contract expires. Could well be making that up though!
The only thing that sounds familar is that when a youth players contract is due to expire you must offer them a contract of higher value in order to get compensation if they leave.

But almost certain that only applies to people under a certain age, probably 21/22.

Could be wrong like.

No, when a contract is finished, that’s it.
yep, I get that. Thought there was mention of some FFP nuance that required an offer to be extended to apply value of players with expired contracts to the books. JJK leaves for free, with an 'assumed value' based on the new contract he refused, which can be applied to the books as a sale. Some accounting wizardry for sure, or just completely made up. Either way, lets hope the offers from Germany are legitimate and he accepts one of those!

ah..... thanks for that. Could be what I was remembering. Can they forge his birth certificate or something? he still looks like he could pass for 21/22 :)

Giving an existing player who's contract is about to expire a new lengthy contract when he simply isn't good enough to play in the PL, never mind the first team is very poor business and a waste of wages at a time when a substantial rebuild is required and every penny is absolutely vital to stay within the ffp rules. I don't care how small his wages are, it is money that should be spent elsewhere to help improve us, not make us static.

It is exactly what i would expect from Moshiri's Everton tbh. The club that carries out a behind closed doors strategic review that is ran by the same people who have been making abysmal decisions that lead us to within a whisker of relegation.

Lack of ambition to actually play from him?
Couldn't see anyone else in the top 5 European league's giving him a contract so you can't blame him I suppose.
