Jonjoe Kenny

Before you know it the backup becomes first choice because of injuries and then we are all moaning when Kenny gets skinned by Jaidon Anthony and he pulls it back for solanke to tap it in from 3 yards out to put Bournemouth 5-2 up
If he goes, there won’t be a replacement brought in. When the injuries kick in, it will be some sort of makeshift player, a completely unsuitable first teamer, or a completely untried U23 player.

I wouldn’t want him to get more than a year, but with the general mess we’re in, I could see a case for that.

I think it will all be moot anyway because I think he will leave.

That is literally Kenny.

My take on Kenny.

He's not good enough for what we want to be, and barely good enough for what we currently are. But we are also looking to replace half a squad of players that aren't good enough, and as a backup who is probably the youngest and lowest paid of everyone we would like to see moved on, he seems like the one position that has some semblance of logic to keeping.

We extend his contract to act as cover between the young fullbacks we have signed for hopefully a long period in the team, and the older fullback is past his best. The idea of spending any more money on another fullback, be that an expensive 1st choice RB who makes the Patterson signing pointless, or another Cuco Martina who signs for cheap but is never going to be 1st choice. The money is best spent elsewhere.

Give Kenny an extension, keep him for a year then sell him. Anything we sell for thereafter is profit and looks good on our books, and at this point, if he goes, we get nothing other than another space to fill with someone who will likely demand a lot more money with no guarantee of being any better.

If the squad was in better shape than it already is, and our finances allowed for it, then sure, by all means, release him and sign someone new.

But its not, and they're not.

Not ideal, but sensible.

Been doing this for how long? 3 years?

Spot on. Not a great player but good cover and will have a sell on value .

Goof post mate. ;)

I'm sure people think our cover players won't actually play much over the course of a season when the exact opposite is true. How often do we ever field our best 11? Once or twice a season it feels like.

Kenny is absolutely last, we've seen it over and over people. Being a warm body is not cover, you actually have to be able to play a bit. At least have more good games than bad ones. Is that anywhere close to accurate when describing him?!

Nothing personal against the lad, he tries and cares, but Christ we will never be anything than a banter club whilst we keep justifying having players like him on the books.
