Jonjoe Kenny

In terms of longevity, JJK will become an Everton legend...he will dine at the top table in our Pantheon of greats: to his left, sits Dixie Dean, to his right Alan Ball. Gurnalot is family...and surely that is what defines our club.

NSNO

And make no mistake: in years ahead, when Everton are struggling in the Championship, JJK will still be there, gurning at every mistake he makes...but hey, at 40 years old, he will deserve a little slack to be cut.

Once again: NSNO

I sincerely hope somebody from Everton realises the sentiment towards offering Kenny a new contract. Lad isn't even Championship material, this would be humiliating and a sign of what's to come this season, as if last season wasn't bad enough.

My take on Kenny.

He's not good enough for what we want to be, and barely good enough for what we currently are. But we are also looking to replace half a squad of players that aren't good enough, and as a backup who is probably the youngest and lowest paid of everyone we would like to see moved on, he seems like the one position that has some semblance of logic to keeping.

We extend his contract to act as cover between the young fullbacks we have signed for hopefully a long period in the team, and the older fullback is past his best. The idea of spending any more money on another fullback, be that an expensive 1st choice RB who makes the Patterson signing pointless, or another Cuco Martina who signs for cheap but is never going to be 1st choice. The money is best spent elsewhere.

Give Kenny an extension, keep him for a year then sell him. Anything we sell for thereafter is profit and looks good on our books, and at this point, if he goes, we get nothing other than another space to fill with someone who will likely demand a lot more money with no guarantee of being any better.

If the squad was in better shape than it already is, and our finances allowed for it, then sure, by all means, release him and sign someone new.

But its not, and they're not.

Not ideal, but sensible.

Yep.

Patterson should be first choice - the money we've invested in him makes him that.

Coleman isn't going anywhere but his legs have gone so he shouldn't be first choice (especially after last season). So there's experience.

Then Kenny is the In-between/3rd choice.

To me, that's fine and adequate. The issue is left back now.

I think the biggest disapointment for many is there isnt anyone coming through(not that im aware of) who can wet the appetite. Someone on the bench now and then. Coming off the bench showing promise.
Kenny is as bland as they come.
The failings has been the youth system providing for the first team.

If he signs an extension he's going to beat Luke Garbett for the award of oldest useless academy product

Surely there's more quality right backs available on a free transfer this summer. Tony Hibbert would be a obvious choice even given his age, lack of attacking prowess and pace

Gordon? Dobbin? Simms?
