Needs to work on the defensive side of his game first; no passengers in this XI.[/QUOTE]

I could name at least half a dozen passengers who have been given starts this season.!!

You and I aren't agreeing on much lately are we:)

You knew who I was talking about from my description so you acknowledge his attributes at least. But I think you'd have Dowell become a complete player before giving him an opportunity in the first team. I, on the other hand, believe from next season he should continue his development within the first team squad as I believe he'd learn more playing at a higher standard and with better players. Also I don't think his defensive attributes are his problem. He is a creative attacking midfielder (a rare commodity in the current era, especially in our squad) and I believe he should prioritise ironing out the issues he has in that side of his game; namely consistency and his habit of drifting out of games. By all accounts both have improved during his spell at Forest, but still need to improve further.

I believe that longer term, Dowell and Kenny could very well sort out our right hand side (and Englands) for years to come.

Looking forward to your counter argument.:)

haha! Think he will end up on the right though?
I don't see why not. It's all about balance. I don't believe we need two out and out pacey wingers in the side. I like the idea of one being a Pienaar type who can link with an attack minded full back like JonJoe.

I'm not saying that Dowell is ready immediately, but Kenny won't be holding down a permanent spot either if Seamus returns at the previous level. But in a couple of seasons why not?. They'll still only be 22 FFS.

I love Seamus, but it would be utterly wrong for him to automatically get Kenny's place when he is back fit.
I love Kenny. I think my posts over the last 2/3 years prove this. But if Seamus comes back at the same level (and I know it's a big IF) as before he was injured, he is the best right back in the league. We have missed him so much. Our whole game fell apart after he got injured last March and we haven't been the same since.

Kenny is one for the future and an absolutely fantastic back up to have for the best right back in England. he will have his time before long.

@Barnfred 55

He should be around the first team squad next season (if he's still here) but to think him and Kenny are a "safe" right-side from the Summer is a little bit risky IMO. They work well together in youth football, I'm not denying that, but we've seen how much better Kenny can play with a Lennon in front of him rather than a Rooney (in the derby). Dowell is quality but his work rate and defensive nous isn't even on Vlasic's level and people say he's too risky to play on the wing with Kenny.

All academical for now but I can't see it happening any time soon.

Said pretty much this is one for the future in this response to Zat.

I would think Ross would be pretty good over there on the right. Gives Kenny space to get wide, but Ross is going to have to track back and win a tackle or two. Ross has pace, can play with his back to the goal and receive passes from places and hold up the ball while Kenny makes his runs.

Left side with Baines or someone a bit more defensive would want an all out winger like Bolaisse, who loves to stay wide and fire crosses in. Lookman likes to cut inside a bit more, but he also likes playing in an advanced position. Onyekuru plays on the left for Anderlecht, too, but is more of a forward and not much of a crosser of the ball. That's a lot of left sided players, although Yannick has played right, too. Just don't see him as a great fit with JonJoe or even Coleman.

..I watched Barkley playing for England youth as a wide midfielder and he was dreadful. They were only playing part timers but they kept running past him.

Wouldn't say they were 'lucky', I wanted him back then...

Though I thought he looked dreadful in a couple of games this season...he's showing we should have gone for him now.

People saying weve got 'enough' young players...its nonsense....we need some stars and then the potential stars to learn from them.

If Kenny and Holgate alone come good then that's half our defence....but we still need cover and having kids as cover is 'free' giving us more money to sign the odd big names.

I think In 2 seasons time, were going to be looking back and seeing this as the start of something special.
I agree with this, but and its a very big but, it completely depends on getting the right manager in. If we get another idiot like Koeman then its not going to happen.

Spot on mate. I mean we've just blown £45 million on Siggurdson and he's been the model of consistency, unfortunately he's been consistently poor. After watching him i can't honestly say that the defensive side of his game has impressed me. He runs around a lot and that's about it.
