Jonny Evans. Strongly linked by proper newspapers. Hmm.

Assuming he comes for, lets say, 6m upfront, then is he ?

But I mean, there's no way we couldn't sign Van Dijk for 8 million quid. Why aren't we setting our sight on him if we are willing to spend big on a centre half?

Van Dickil told the worlds media that he wanted to leave celtic 6 weeks ago, not a single bid, still no caps for Holland.

When will you people realise how utterly terrible he is.

Solid rather than spectacular. I cannot see it being 8m as he has only 12 months left on his contract, 4m-5m I would say.

If he can stay fit he would be a very decent signing.
I don't think he is coming as backup, if he comes. He will be coming as a first team player, in his own mind at least.
Time will tell if he is good enough.

Well no way he's starting unless we line up 3 in the back which wouldn't make much sense.

Yes. He contributed a lot to a team which won the league 3 times. With him in it. A lot of the time.

Sure.

Tony Hibbert contributed a lot to teams who finished regularly in the top 6, but most people wouldn't wanna sign him.

I think Evans is a competant player who is a good pro, works hard and doesn't cause a fuss, happy to be back up at a club and can put in some decent performances after a run of games.

But way too prone to comedy defending at times so as much as i'm for signing an experienced centre back as cover i'd prefer and older, cheaper but better one.

Wouldn't mind Evans at all, will provide good competition to what we already have and has plenty of experience in winning things.

Think £7-8m is a bit much for him though, considering he's available for free in 12 months.
