His job is to stop goals from happening against us. Thats his one and only task. How can you say ‘so?’ to statistics like that then?
Put DeGea in goal and you would at least half those goals, and belive me, letting in 10 is a lot better than letting in 21.
If anyone bids big for him again, which I really doubt anyone will, we need to sell him and get a real keeper.

Not a chance, didnt you see his stats earlier in the season goals faced and saves made? In the world cup it was shocking, last days of Tim Howard standard and the start of this season and the end of last he didnt exactly crown himself in glory. Yes he is a top keeper but come on, most of the goals we have let in apart form one or two, Wolves free kick being a good exmaple, havent been down to solo keeper error, very few have been standard saves

I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. I've not said he cant/wont improve. But let's just look at this for moment. In the last 4 years, here are a list of people who have been at fault for our defences misgivings:

Martinez, Howard, Oviedo, Alcaraz, Mori, Joel, Pennington, Koeman, Williams, Jagielka, Baines, Koeman, Stekelenberg, Kenny, Keane, Holgate, Schneiderlin, Allardyce, Davies, Silva...

And here's a list of people who weren't at fault:

Pickford, Gueye.

Tell what's fair about that?

How about we win as a team and lose as a team?

Our fans are utter weirdos at times. We just love to destroy players.

It now seems Pickford is worse than Asimir Begovic and a player who doesn't actually exist. Brilliant.

I agree to a point, hence why I made the point of saying certain people get all the blame while some are absolved based on reputation.

What I disagree with though, is how as part of the defensive unit, we can say Pickford is fine and it's the defenders in front of him who are to blame.

Sometimes? Of course. All of the time? No.

his job is to stop goals yes, but it's not as easy as that, you put de gea in goal for us and he concedes just as many as pickford ( obviously he'll make a few more saves because he's probably the worlds best keeper )
He would obviously make more saves but let in as many goals? Need to work on your logic there.
There are many keepers in football that would stop a lot of the goals Pickford conceded for us last season and this season. I would love him to be better too, but he really isnt that good atm. We will continue to leak more goals than needed with him as a gk, unless he ups his game. I think he’s capable of doing that, mind you, but until he does, he’s not good enough, and neither is Stek. I dont know anything about the keeper we brought from Arsenal, but I doubt hes ready.

Edit:
To be clear, Im not blaming Pickford for us loosing against Arsenal. He had a decent game. Im saying his accumulated works for us are less than impressive.

could have worded that better, what I meant was if pickford conceded say 30 goals, de gea would probably stop a couple of them because he is probably the worlds best ( ie more saves but still concede near about the same )

the problem with that is de gea plays for one of the best teams in the world for this reason, we've got the absolute best goalie we can for where we are

we as a team have a few problems at the moment and pickford is the furthest thing from one of them

There are better keepers in this league, playing for worse sides - a lot of them have been mentioned in this thread over the last pages. In other words, we absolutely do not have the best keeper we could possibly have for our stature as a club. Thats a preposterous statement to make.

As a team, Pickford is part of the defensive unit but there are some goals where, either you say 'fair play' to the scorer or they are not the keepers fault that a defensive error was made.

This season, you can say he was out of position for the Wolves goal but other than I could not attribute full blame to him and in some cases even part blame.

Wolves - 1st yes, I would say his error. 2nd, could not do much about the poor defending from open play and it was a well taken header.

Southampton - Maybe could have swept up the 6 yard box a bit better but all in all poor defending from a corner

Bournemouth - 1st, a penalty so no blame there. 2nd, bit like the Southampton goal. Could argue a case for him being partly to blame but again poor defending from the outfield players

Huddersfield - Definitely poor defending (tactics) from the set piece

West Ham - 1st, couldn't do much about that goal, 2nd, great finish that would have been a world class save if he got there (EDIT: as has been pointed out it was an awful pass to set that one up), 3rd, could do nothing about it

Arsenal - 1st, see West Hams 2nd. 2nd goal well that was a 3 on 1/2 break and the liner was at fault for that :)

I see the point that we should be including him in all goals as part pf the problem but all in all there are areas of the team that are more at fault than Pickford.

I think we have the best Keeper we can currently personally.

Mate he litterally set up West Hams 2nd goal.
