Not sure what the 'mistake' is that Pickford made. What was he supposed to do with the ball dropping behind him like that?

He should leave it.

But it's a horrid thing to happen. It's hard to judge, because whatever happens that ball is hitting the bar. However, he should realise that if it does hit the bar, then it'll most likely go out of play. Or, worst case, it'll go up in the air and he can take it back in.

A bit of a catch 22 because either way he had to take a risk. It just sums their luck up. Devil spawn.

Don't really see too much wrong with what he said. I certainly won't make a mountain from a mole hill out of it.
Good keeper makes a mistake and holds his hand up and apologises to fans.......it happens. Don't think Silva will send him out on loan like Howard Kendall did to Neville Southall after a derby match.

It was a major blunder , but the slice on Van Dykes attempted shot got me .....over the bar and a goal kick the whistle goes.....
If Robles had done that ......
He got slaughtered for not saving an unsighted shot in a Derby .....
A keeper only has to make one mistake and it can cost a team a game - Pickford had one good save to make the fluky spinning ball undid him - if the ball let's say was out over the bar the liner would have stated it was in play ........

I wonder if they will have VAR cameras above and along the line when VAR is used in the future, to see if the ball is definitely out of play. The hawkeye technology on the goal line works well.
